2 PREFACE The formulation of a pocket book of statistics is an important step in the direction of dissemination of useful socio economic data about the State. This publication which is 48 th in the series fulfils the ever-increasing demand for reliable facts and figures about the changes which are taking place in the economy of the State in a handy form. It is hoped that this publication will serve as a useful reference book for the general public, research workers and administrators. This office acknowledges with thanks the co-operation of various departments and organizations in making available the statistical data presented in this publication.
