3 APEC Biofuels Task Force Update The 5 th APEC Biofuels Task Force meeting was held October 7-9,2008 in Golden, Colorado, USA at the National Renewable Energy Laboratory. The meeting was attended by 8 APEC economies and Brazil The meeting included a one day workshop on resource assessment Past meeting minutes and other material is available from Jeff Skeer at US DOE (Jeff.Skeer@hq.doe.gov) 3

5 Cooperation with the Small and Medium Enterprise Working Group (SME) The EGNRET has been invited to participate in the 15 th Small and Medium Enterprise Ministerial Meeting August 28-29, 2008 in Chiclayo, Peru The theme of the meeting is Sustainable Local Development to Foster SME Growth In keeping with this theme, we were asked to present on New and Renewable Energy Technologies for Small and Medium Enterprises In the presentation, I highlighted as many examples as possible taken from member economies We have been asked to prepare a joint proposal with the SME for 2009 on Employment Aspects of Sustainable Energy Development 5

7 APEC Workshop on Best Practices in Energy Efficiency and Renewable Energy in Commercial Building Workshop was held Mexico City, October 16-17, 2008, following EGNRET-31 and organized by the National Commission for Energy Conservation (CONAE) The workshop focused on sustainability and design Environmental Impact of Construction Standards and Regulations for Sustainable Buildings Sustainable Construction Single Family Housing Offices and Skyscrapers Urban Design 7

9 Workshop on Gird Integration of Renewable Energy The workshop is a self-funded US APEC project that is meant to target a critical infrastructure area associated with the increased use of renewable energy technologies The workshop also supports the EGNRET project being proposed this year by Japan on "Addressing Gridinterconnection Issues in Order to Maximize the Utilization of New and Renewable Energy Sources" The workshop was held in Lanai, Hawaii, January 13-15, 2009 The workshop summary was just completed and is available on the workshop website at: 9
