Compressed Air Systems - Fundamentals of compressed air systems, including methodologies for minimizing costs associated with its generation, distribution, and application. 2. Energy Efficient Lighting - Review the fundamentals of various lighting sources, including cost-effectiveness, advantages, disadvantages, and preferred applications. Lighting control techniques will also be examined. 3. Boilers and Steam Systems - The cost of wasted steam, steam system efficiency, steam quality, and other topics impacting steam system efficiency, such as steam traps. 4. Thermal Energy Storage - Examine the fundamentals of thermal energy storage (TES) systems, with a focus on ice and chilled water system advantages and disadvantages. 5. Fundamentals of HVAC Systems - The basic HVAC process as well as types of distribution systems, airside economizers, fan law applications, and strategies for controlling costs. 6. Chillers/Cooling Towers - Types of chillers and cooling towers, as well as the fundamentals of efficient operation. In addition, heat exchanger types, performance, and applications will be reviewed. 7. Building Envelope Analysis - Thermal properties of various construction materials, how building space conditioning loads are calculated, and which factors most influence heating and cooling energy consumption. 2. Industrial and Commercial Ventilation - Current ASHRAE standards involving building ventilation and methods for providing acceptable indoor air quality while minimizing energy consumption. 3. Geothermal Heat Pump - Fundamentals of the geothermal heat pump, including different systems and factors affecting design and performance. 4. Process Energy Analysis/Cogeneration - A systematic approach to analyzing complex energy systems (compressed air, steam, etc.) for energy opportunities, thereby optimizing performance. In addition, cogeneration and its potential benefits will be reviewed. 5. DDC Controls Specifications, Procurement, and Commissioning - A close look at critical DDC specification issues, including procurement challenges, non-traditional solutions, and the overall commissioning process with a focus on DDC controls. 6. Hydronic Systems - Fundamentals and strategies for optimizing hydronic system performance and minimizing costs. 7. High Performance Building Envelopes - A look at the thermal integrity of commercial buildings and an integral component in making them a high-performance building. 5
