LID Treatment Train Tool Overview LSRCA Board of Directors July 28, 2017 Steve Auger Manager, Urban Restoration Member of Conservation Ontario

Direction Going forward, the Ministry expects that stormwater management plans will employ LID in order to maintain the natural hydrologic cycle to the greatest extent possible. - Interpretation Bulletin from MOECC February

Identified Objectives for LID model for Ontario Tailored to Ontario climate and geologic conditions Hydraulic routing to better predict flow volumes and rates Capable of estimating pre and post water budget Accommodate higher number of BMPs, LIDs, treatment trains, and/or end-of-pipe facilities User friendly GUI, Open-Source Generate results in accordance with local targets and criteria (i.e., volume reduction, TSS & TP water quality reduction, and water budget estimates). 3

Lake Simcoe Phosphorus Offsetting Program Sheppards Bush Conservation Area - Aurora 4

LID Treatment Train Tool for Ontario Purpose: A conceptual design tool to help developers, consultants, municipalities and landowners implement better site design storm water management practices. 5

Stormwater Management Design Criteria Addressed via LID TTT 1. Proposed: Stormwater volume reduction target 2. Water quantity/ flood control (peak flow control) 3. Water balance 4. Water quality (Total Suspended Solids/Total Phosphorus removal) 13

1.0 PROPOSED: Stormwater volume reduction target MOECC Criterion Design criteria for Mosaik Glenway Estates Criteria met per LID TTT? (Y/N) Proposed: stormwater volume reduction target Retain 25 mm event on site 14

1.0 PROPOSED: Stormwater volume reduction target This example results demonstrates the Runoff Volume Control target (depth) of 25 mm is not met. Designer should therefore modify site plan / LID treatment train design until 25 mm target is met. 15

4.0 Water Quality MOECC Criterion Water quality Design criteria for Mosaik Glenway Estates Enhanced level of treatment TSS - Minimum: 80% TP Minimum: 80% Criteria met per LID TTT? (Y/N) 16

4.0 Water Quality - TP This example results demonstrates a Total Phosphorus reduction from approximately 8.75 kg / yr to 2.03kg/yr. Designer to enhance the LID features or provide funds to the offset the 2.03 kg leaving the site. 17

Next Steps Planned Version 1.0 Scheduled for completion at end of April Training Workshops: Lake Simcoe Watershed - June 27, 2017 Toronto and Region Watershed - Sept 2017 Credit Valley Watershed Oct or Nov 2017 Technical Support Version 2.0 Development Costing Consideration for more water quality parameter computations (results).
