4 How did we get here! SET Plan 10 Key Actions: Communication published in September 2015 Setting targets: Through 'Declarations of Intent', commonly agreed among EC, countries, stakeholders Set-up of temporary Working Groups: To prepare Implementation Plans, SET Plan countries leading the process Implementation Plans: To select R&I Activities, identify Flagship actions, and define mechanisms to implement FUNDING Mainly from National sources / Industry In specific cases at EU Level. 4

5 SET Plan progress of the TWGs 3 Implementation Plans have already been endorsed by the SET Plan Steering Group the previous months (on CSP, CCS/U, Energy Efficiency in industry). We will have more Implementation Plans ready by the end of the year/beginning of next year. Good progress in all the TWGs. We expect to have endorsed Implementation Plans for all TWGs by middle

6 Involvement and contribution from research community The involvement and engagement of the different actors (countries, research, businesses) will be the key to success. EUA-EPUA has been an important contributor to this process being part of the research community & participating and contributing to most of the TWGs that have been formed. Thank you! We count on your support and contribution for the identification of flagship actions within the remaining Implementation Plans. 6

8 What comes next? The real challenge is to realise the common synergetic actions that are identified in the Implementation Plans Key actors to implement the projects are the countries that drove the process and the actors participated (industry and research). 8

9 Key issues and the EC support Key issues will be the formulation of partnership schemes and the funding of the projects that should principally come from countries and the private sector. EC will continue supporting and facilitating the process. Need to explore funding possibilities through national funding of R&I, EIB loans, synergies with structural funds, EU level partnership calls such as ERA-NETs etc. 9

10 An important role for the KIC-Inno Energy KIC-Inno energy could support the implementation of the projects that have been identified in the IPs. We count on that support! KICs have good knowledge/experience in defining business models, attract investors for funding etc. With its knowledge triangle, it connects well the research community and the actors (enterprises, indutries) that can potentially implement the projects. 10
