6 Where does the program get their Water? 1. Customer of a Water Company (Water comes from a Community PWS) 2.Served by an on-site well (located on the property) Private Water Well Public Water Well <25 people Non-Community PWS 25 or more people

7 Customer of a Water Company Program needs to know who their Water Company is. -Ask for a copy of water bill or name of Water Company *Can be tricky when Program is a tenant

8 On-site Well Determine if it s a Private well or Non-Community PWS well Private Well Serves less than 25 people (total) Public Water Supply Well Serves 25 or more people (total) at least 60 days Can serve more than the program (i.e., a strip mall with multiple businesses or the daycare center with a residence). CT DPH will regulate the water system as a Non-Community (NTNC or TNC) PWS

17 Water Quality Results ALL PROGRAMS ARE REQUIRED TO CONDUCT A LEAD WATER TEST! Lead Water Test Result Less than (<) or equal to mg/l or ppm (15 ug/l or 15 ppb) *Samples should be first draw samples collected from a tap in the licensed space that is commonly used for food and/or beverage preparation

18 If Lead Results are Elevated Customer of a Water Company Handled on a case by case basis Options include fixture/pipe replacement or a flushing program. On-site Well Options include fixture/pipe replacement or a flushing program. ph adjustment treatment filter vs. chemical injection PWS regulations may required a corrosion control treatment system to be installed.

20 Water Quality Results, Cont d Programs with and On-Site Well Must also test for Total Coliform Bacteria and a Chemical Test Total Coliform Bacteria or E Coli/Fecal Coliform Bacteria MUST BE ABSENT or 0 colonies Chemical Test Results Minimally samples for Nitrate and Nitrite Nitrate test results less than (<) 10 mg/l or 10 ppm Nitrite less than (<) 1 mg/l or 1 ppm Additional samples may be required as a result of the Property History Questionnaire.

21 Water Quality Follow-Up All sample results are required to be kept on-site. (even for programs with DPH-regulated PWS on-site) Sample results should be up to date. If any samples do not meet the regulatory requirements, you should inform DPH, have the program use bottled water and follow up with the program until they provide acceptable test results or a corrective action plan.
