SAVING THE PLANET HAS NEVER BEEN AN ISSUE OF MONEY, BUT RATHER A MATTER OF RESOURCEFULNESS AND MOTIVATION OF INDIVIDUALS SPENCER BEEBE
HOME RECYCLING WHY RECYCLE WHY PEOPLE DO NOT RECYCLE WHAT TO RECYCLE WHAT NOT TO RECYCLE HOW TO RECYCLE HOME RECYCLING - UK QUESTION AND ANSWER SESSION
WHY RECYCLE Conserve the Earth s natural resources Reduce the need for imports Save energy and reduce air pollution Avoid pollution of ground/water by dumped rubbish Less land used for landfill areas Informal/formal job creation make money, sell waste
WHY RECYCLE It s just a good thing to do like donating blood and paying your TV licence fee It makes you feel good you are doing something to help the planet

WHY PEOPLE DO NOT RECYCLE Too lazy, force of habit to put all the rubbish in one bag Someone else s job, we pay the municipality to do this work Think that recycling is extremely difficult and time-consuming
If recycling makes money, the municipality should pay households to recycle Ignorance of how simple it can be to recycle household waste at the source Limited or no knowledge of what to recycle and how to go about it
WHAT TO RECYCLE PAPER PLASTIC CARDBOARD TINS BOTTLES ORGANIC WASTE
WHAT NOT TO RECYCLE WET PAPER BANANA BOXES MILK CARTONS POLYSTYRENE BUBBLE PLASTIC CELLOPHANE PACKETS (CRISP PACKETS
KEEP IT SIMPLE DEVELOP A SYSTEM TO SUIT YOUR HOME EDUCATE THE ENTIRE HOUSEHOLD- WIFE, HUSBAND, CHILDREN, DOMESTIC, GARDENER SET ASIDE AND AREA TO COLLECT THE GOODS ie Kitchen, Outside, Garage
GET SOMEBODY TO COLLECT IT REMOVE IT REGULARLY FIND OUT WHERE YOU CAN TAKE IT CHARITY SHOP, DROP-OFF OFF POINT ETC

WHY DOES IT WORK IN THE HOUSEHOLDS WHO RECYCLE, THEY HAVE SEEN THE NEED AND WANT TO DO IT

OTHER WAYS TO RECYCLE HAVE REGULAR GARAGE SALES OR DONATE UNWANTED/UNUSED HOUSEHOLD ITEMS TO CHARITY SHOPS DONATE OLD MAGAZINES/BOOKS TO HOSPITALS AND CHARITY SHOPS BUY HOUSEHOLD CLEANERS ETC WHICH HAVE A REFILLABLE TYPE BOTTLE BE AWARE WHEN SHOPPING AND BUY GOODS WHICH HAVE THE LEAST AMOUNT OF PACKAGING USE ENVIRONMENTALLY FRIENDLY PRODUCTS AND SERVICES
EDUCATION? THE KEY? ON-GOING EDUCATION PROGRAMMES IN SCHOOLS WOULD ENSURE THAT THE YOUNGER GENERATION ARE BROUGHT UP IN A CULTURE OF RECYCLING THESE CHILDREN ARE THE FUTURE OF OUR COUNTRY AND IF RECYCLING BECOMES SECOND NATURE FOR THEM, THE POSSIBILITY OF THEM RECYCLING IN THEIR OWN HOMES/BUSINESSES, BECOMES MORE OF A REALITY
HOME RECYCLING - UK ON A RECENT OVERSEAS TRIP, I SAW THAT HOMES IN VARIOUS TOWNS HAD BEEN ISSUED RECYCLING BINS BY THEIR LOCAL COUNCIL, WHICH ARE COLLECTED ON DIFFERENT DAYS, DEPENDING ON THE TYPE OF MATERIAL IN THAT BIN.
THEY ALSO HAVE RECYCLING CENTRES, WHERE PEOPLE CAN BRING MATERIAL, WHICH IS THEN SORTED AND PUT INTO VARIOUS CONTAINERS. AT THESE RECYCLING CENTRES, THERE ARE ALSO CONTAINERS FOR OLD CLOTHING, SHOES, ETC ALL RECYCLING IN THE UNITED KINGDOM IS DONE ON A VOLUNTARY BASIS
WHAT ELSE CAN YOU DO? LOBBY YOUR LOCAL COUNCILLOR TO PROVIDE/PROMOTE RECYCLING CENTRES ENSURE THAT YOUR WORK PLACE RECYCLES ENCOURAGE YOUR CHILDREN TO START A RECYCLING PROGRAMME AT SCHOOL BE AWARE YOU CAN MAKE A DIFFERENCE

THE PRESERVATION OF THE ENVIRONMENT IS NOT NEGOTIABLE
THOSE WHO ARE FIRED WITH AN ENTHUSIASTIC IDEA AND WHO ALLOW IT TO TAKE HOLD AND DOMINATE THEIR THOUGHTS FIND THAT NEW WORLDS OPEN FOR THEM. AS LONG AS ENTHUSIASM HOLDS OUT, SO WILL NEW OPPORTUNITIES Norman Vincent Peale
LIFE SHOULD NOT BE A JOURNEY TO THE GRAVE WITH THE INTENTION OF ARRIVING SAFELY IN AN ATTRACTIVE AND WELL PRESERVED BODY, BUT RATHER TO SKID IN SIDE-WAYS, CHAMPAGNE IN ONE HAND, STRAWBERRIES IN THE OTHER, BODY THOROUGHLY USED UP, TOTALLY WORN OUT AND SCREAMING Anon WOW WHAT A RIDE!
