2 Business Waste in NSW NSW businesses send more than 1.8 million tonnes of waste to landfill each year. More than 70% of this could be reused or recycled.
3 The Bin Trim Program Funds free assessments, tailored action plans and support to businesses to make positive changes Provides 50% funding for recycling equipment The Bin Trim Program is part of the Waste Less, Recycle More initiative and is funded from the NSW waste levy. It is the largest waste and recycling funding program in Australia. 3
4 Bin Trim achievements so far: There have been two Bin Trim rounds since In that time the Program with rebates has achieved the following: $11.6M awarded to 53 grantees to provide free assessments Engaged with over 22,000 businesses Achieved a 13% increase in recycling volumes 1,878 businesses awarded over $1.9M for recycling equipment 4
5 Bin Trim Rebates Rebate funding has achieved: 194 applications 151 successful $1,909,703 in funding awarded Projects valued at $4,023,144 Average rebate is $13,500 Diverted 15,271 tonnes p.a. from landfill Will divert over 76,000 tonnes from landfill over 5 years
6 Recycling Equipment Funded A total of 3,326 individual pieces of equipment funded: Bags and frames Balers Food recycling equipment Bottle crushers Outdoor recycling stations Internal separation bins Worm farms Crushers Conveyor belts EPS machines Shredder
7 Materials Diverted by Equipment Over 15,000 tonnes p.a. to be diverted from landfill Types of materials diverted: Polystyrene Metals Soft and hard plastics Timber Cardboard Paper Food waste Garden organics Sand
8 Facility Managers Receiving Rebates 279 facility managers that had Bin Trim assessments received funding for recycling equipment. Benefits include: Reduced waste charges Increased productivity Increased space Freeing up staff time Engaging with staff Reducing waste to landfill Process waste more efficiently Fewer collections If your business is looking at trying to better process the materials you handle, there is a real opportunity here to get the equipment that will help you do it. Funding of $41,850 for 6 glass crushers Reduced glass volume by 60% Installed 6 x 660L commingled bins Recycling tonnes of aluminium and tonnes rigid plastic p.a. Save around $1,600 p.a. in waste costs
