2 Globally, an energy transition is underway, with renewable energy at its centre. India, with its mammoth renewable energy targets, is rapidly becoming a leader in this global energy transition. As the renewable energy sector around the world, and in India in particular, moves beyond infancy, there is growing need for the sector to be supported by dynamic policies, technology innovation, robust financial architecture, and deep markets. It is imperative that the renewable energy scale up is both timely and efficient. The CEEW Renewable Energy Dialogue offers a platform for engaged deliberations on the role of different stakeholders in advancing renewable energy deployment, balancing both domestic priorities and international mitigation ambitions and commitments. The Dialogue aims to be India s flagship forum to discuss the opportunities for accelerating the adoption of renewable energy, as well as consider solutions to the challenges plaguing the renewables sector.

3 CEEW Renewable Energy Dialogue June New Delhi The 2018 edition of the CEEW Renewable Energy Dialogue will have a specific focus on market creation and market trends. With participants from all relevant stakeholder communities, and multiple geographies, the RE Dialogue will reduce information asymmetries and make incisive calls for impactful actions. HIGHLIGHTS India Energy Transitions Debate with Industry Leaders Panel Discussions The Role of Data in Understanding and De-risking RE Finance Can higher levels of transparency positively influence the flow of finance into renewable energy projects? Could the data generated in power systems, and actuarial science be leveraged to design market transformative de-risking instruments? Policy and Regulatory Priorities for Achieving Renewable Energy Objectives Can improving and standardising regulatory processes accelerate the pace of RE deployment? Can policies be strengthened and PPAs be restructured to better deal with some of the current risks in the renewable energy sector, and ease the burden of transition? Risks in Renewable Energy Markets in Emerging Economies Can lessons learnt from energy transitions in other geographies be made fit for country-specific challenges? Would identifying and pooling common risks across geographies facilitate a global transition? Scaling Solar Rooftops: The Role of Utilities Will the adoption of residential solar rooftops be central to India realising its RE ambitions? How can consumers be incentivised to choose solar? What business models would help balance the losses of utilities?

4 #REdialogue 2017 Highlights RE growing at a faster pace will disrupt business models. New technology, and storage, will bring down the costs and make it much more attractive. Christine Lins Executive Secretary, REN21 Who predicted the wireless? Same happened in the telecom industry. Nobody predicts disruptive innovation. RE is economically viable and important for India. It no longer needs subsidies; the price barrier is broken. Ashok Jhunjhunwala Professor, IIT Madras, and Principal Adviser, Ministry of Railways Meeting the 2 C target requires a large portfolio of technologies. Innovations in large portfolios, cleaner fossil fuels, and derisked investments are necessary for the global energy transition. Paolo Frankl Head, Renewable Energy Division, International Energy Agency Solar and wind, effective 1st April 2017, have been running without any fiscal subsidies in India, and are competing with coal. The population will double in the next 40 years; energy needs to match the growing demand. What as a country are we looking at?
