4 WORKSHOPS Pre-Conference Workshop 18 March 2013 Diversification for Sugar Mills into Ethanol The aim of this workshop is to produce a guide to the stakeholders of the sugar industry on commercial opportunities arising from sugar byproducts, particularly for ethanol. This in depth and interactive session will update participants on the full range of by products, commercial applications, how mills can optimize operations, and the technologies that can be used. Workshop Outline The value proposition of ethanol from cane / molasses Making the decision what to consider when investing to include ethanol plant Technology developments Driving efficiencies in existing projects Workshop Leader: Assoc. Prof. Dr. Klanarong Sriroth, Director of Sugar Technology Program, Department of Biotechnology, Faculty of Agro- Industry, Kasetsart University, Thailand Assoc. Prof. Dr. Klanarong Sriroth currently serves as a technical committee in many National Boards concerning cassava, sugar and bioethanol. He was one of the key person who established the public awareness for the significant role of Science & Technology to strengthen the competitiveness of Thai agro industry, in particular carbohydrate crops which are sugar cane and cassava. Consequently, with the collaboration between National Center for Genetic Engineering and Biotechnology (BIOTEC), National Science and Technology Development Agency (NSTDA) and Kasetsart University, Cassava and Starch Technology Research Unit, a specialized unit on cassava, starch and sugar technology, was established in 1995 and he has been active as the unit director since then. Assoc. Prof. Dr. Klanarong Sriroth also set up Sugar and Ethanol Technology Programme for factory personnel, which promotes academic and industrial networking.
