5 350_GB.qxd :5 Sei e 5 3 Multi-Purpose Monitoring An analyser, which enables spot checks as well as simultaneous long-term measurements at different points in the flue gas system, is needed to reduce or monitor emissions and for troubleshooting for problem process conditions. Additional parameters such as flue gas quantity, pressures, temperatures or other parameters also have to be measured for assessment purposes. Emission Monitoring The operation of all types of industrial systems -- ranging from simple steam generators to large-scale power stations -- is subject, in most countries, to strict guidelines for flue gas emissions in the atmosphere. Using suitable measures, it must be guaranteed and regularly proven that the various flue gas components do not exceed specified limit values. Flue gas analysis plays a key role here. Important criteria include accuracy and acceptance of measured results, detailed and clear documentation of values and flexibility. A common desire is to have a remote display at the burner controls. For your advantage, the control unit in testo 350 M/XL is detachable and can be operated at up to 50 m away from the analysis box. Gas conditioning for industrial applications is needed whether you are carrying out a spot check or long-term measurements lasting for several hours. Testo s integrated gas conditioning system achieves accurate measurements of NO x or SO and the analyser is also protected from corrosive condensate from the flue gas. The following is required: Flexibility of system in order to be able to react to the different requirements of the different systems Simultaneous sampling at different measurement points Option of connecting additional parameters such as C; ma/mv etc. Long-term measurements in order to be able to assess different process cycles The testo 350 M/XL measuring system fulfills these requirements. They are operated either connected to each other via the Testo data bus or as a separate data logger without being connected. Separate measurement programs are saved in the analysis box. Several loggers can be used simultaneously if more channels are needed. The type of readings (gas flow, temperature etc.) is determined via the probes used. Similar to the analysis box, the logger has an internal data memory and can save data wihout a data bus connection. The logger housing is designed such that the logger can be attached mechanically or electrically to the analysis box under the the control unit, to the ma out unit and the radio control unit. The location or probe name is visible through the protection cover. A wall-holder with lock is available so you can easily mount the logger on site. PCMCIA plug-in card Analog Output Analog output units can be looped into the data bus to output measurement data as an analog signal (4 0mA). Each unit has 6 user defined channels which can be scaled to suit the application. The data bus can also take over the power supply to other components, e.g. the control unit, at distances of up to 50 m. The selection of the right probe is critical for accurate and consistent measurements. Because the sampling locations are often different, it s beneficial to have a standard probe designed for a wide variety of applications. In addition to the standard sampling probes, Testo also offers probe systems for specific industrial applications. Standard sampling probes The standard sampling probe is available in lengths from 335 mm and 700 mm and for different temperature ranges. The outer pipe with a sintered filter is used for dusty flue gases. Using extension pipes (up to max. 3 m) the probe can be used in large flue gas ducts. A preliminary filter is screwed on to protect the probe in dusty gases. The sampling pipe connects to either a heated or nonheated handle. A thermocouple connected to testo 350 M/XL and inserted through the handle and sampling pipe is used for flue gas temperature. The heated probe (Ex. 1) is used for moist flue gases to eliminate absorption of NO and SO. The probes are attached to the flue gas duct using the mounting flange.
