Project Area: Outfall IJKL Outfall IJKL is a stormwater drainage pipe at the west end of Crissy Field. Location of Extended Outfall Restricted Beach Access Work Area Manhole Modification CRISSY FIELD DRAINAGE IMPROVEMENT PROJECT

What s Happening Now Sand buildup caused by tides and weather buries the existing pipe and necessitates frequent excavation. Current beach outfall after excavation Outfall manhole access on Crissy Beach Existing Outfall The blocked pipe contributes to ongoing flooding problems upstream in the Crissy Field and Mason Street areas. Maintenance of the outfall is difficult and time-consuming due to a narrow access manhole. PURPOSE & NEED

The Proposed Solution Widen the existing drainage pipe (Outfall IJKL ) and extend it into the bay. Increase drainage capacity, reducing sand buildup and alleviating flooding problems. Accommodate stormwater runoff from the Presidio Parkway project and future parkland improvements, and take into account the 50-year projected beach accretion. Enlarge the access manhole on Crissy Field, facilitating future maintenance and protection of the area. Existing Outfall Extended Outfall QUICK FACTS Work Area Manhole Modification Length of extension: 296 feet Total length of completed pipeline: 466 feet Diameter of new pipe: 54 inches PROJECT PROCESS & SCHEDULE

Environmental Protection & Stewardship: Crissy Beach Crissy Beach includes natural northern foredunes, which host beach vegetation, such as sand-verbena, beach strawberry and beach primrose. During August through April, the Western Snowy Plover rests and forages in the foredune habitat. Habitat Protection Measures Photo: Will Elder, NPS Northern Foredunes Photo: Flickr/Tom Hilton Photo: Flickr/Tom Hilton Photo: Flickr/Tang Heng Sand Verbena Beach Primrose Western Snowy Plover Fencing will be installed on the beach to protect all environmentally sensitive areas (ESAs). The beach and any impacted northern foredunes will be restored by the National Park Service once construction is complete. All contractor and subcontractor personnel will be required to undergo ESA training prior to entering the jobsite. Staged construction will occur during the summer months when the Snowy Plover is not present. Prior to construction, some existing vegetation will be temporarily relocated by the National Park Service to a nursery until construction is complete. Wildlife specialists will be on site to monitor wildlife and habitat protection. ENVIRONMENTAL IMPACT MITIGATION

Environmental Protection & Stewardship: San Francisco Bay The San Francisco Bay is home to a wide array of fish, including green sturgeon, steelhead trout, salmon and smelt. Underwater construction best practices will be in place to minimize impacts to underwater and tidal habitats.
