2 About us Scintilla Consulting is the trading arm of Mansfield CVS and since January 2013 has been successfully delivering contracts, training and consultancy services. Scintilla was established to assist Mansfield CVS with its charitable aims, to help resource and support the voluntary and community sector in Mansfield and to build capacity and foster innovation. Scintilla employs five staff, one of whom is an apprentice. Currently Scintilla delivers Apprenticeships in Business Administration, Health & Social Care and Customer Service, class room based qualifications via the Adult Skills Budget and through Community Learning We also work with companies as a consultancy, providing training and support in a variety of areas from Business Planning, Management Training to Organisational Sustainability.
3 What Are the Apprentice Salaries? There are different levels of national minimum wage, depending on your age and whether you are in an apprenticeship. The current rates (from 1 st October 2015) are: The rate for workers aged 21 and over The rate for workers aged The rate for workers aged The apprentice rate, for apprentices under 19 or 19 and over in their first year What is an Employer s Commitment? Employers will sign an agreement which will: Confirmation of the number of apprentices they will be taking on, as a result of this incentive (maximum of 5). Confirmation that they wouldn t have taken the apprentice on without this incentive. A commitment that they will employ the apprentice for at least the time it takes to achieve the apprenticeship framework. If they fail to do this, some or all the wage allowance will be clawed back. Confirmation they are aware of and do not breach any state aid rules. Agreement to pay the minimum apprenticeship wage of 3.30 per hour although this is a minimum and most employers do pay more.
4 Employer Grant Information Apprentice grant for employers of 16 to 24 year olds (age 16 to 24) The apprenticeship grant is available for 16 to 24 year olds and is aimed at helping eligible employers to offer young people employment through the apprenticeship programme, by providing wage grants to assist employers in recruiting their first apprentice. The age 16 to 24 grant for employers aims to support businesses, who would not otherwise be in a position to do so, to recruit individuals aged 16 to 24 into employment though the apprenticeship programme. The national apprenticeship service will provide apprenticeship grants to small medium sized employers recruiting 16 to 24 year olds with a value of (the payment is a grant and is exempt from VAT). The 1500 is in addition to the training costs of the apprenticeship framework which are met in full for young people aged 16 to 18 and 50% for those aged 19 to 24. The National Apprenticeship Service will provide age 16 to 24 grants to eligible employers, in respect of qualifying apprentices, with an individual value of Employers can be paid five grants in total during the lifetime of the initiative, however, the employer must commit to the total number of apprentices they wish to take on through the grant at the upfront agreement stage.
5 Customer Service Level 2 Anyone with some experience in customer service and handling more difficult customers. For those looking to improve own skills and become more involved in making improvements to the teams level of customer service. What Does it Cover? Develops knowledge and understanding of the principles of effective customer service and develop practical skills required to support the customer service environment in any industry. Dealing with routine and more difficult customers, confidence in the use of language and the processes designed to make roles effective. Candidates will have the opportunity to improve own skills and support others within their team in the development of customer service. Qualification Structure: To achieve the level 2 NVQ certificate in customer service, learners must achieve: minimum credit value of 45. The learner must achieve 19 credits from the mandatory units. A further 26 credits must be achieved by completing a minimum of one unit from each optional group. These groups include: communication with customers, customer expectations, customer feedback, work place polices & procedures, processing sales. Mandatory Units: : Delivering customer service. L2 5 credits : Understanding customers. L2 2 credits : Principles of customer service. L2 4 credits : Understand employer organisations. L2 4 credits : Managing personal development. L2 4 credits
6 Customer Service Level 3 Those who have a significant responsibility for the delivery of both internal and external customer service within their team or organisation. What Does it Cover? Develops an understanding of how customer service delivery and legislation affects customer expectations and how the customer service process can be developed through customer feedback, promotion of products and services and effective teamwork. Provides opportunities to demonstrate understanding of customer service as a competitive tool and to be proactive in finding solutions both internally and externally to the organisation. Candidates will demonstrate their ability to analyse and respond to customer issues at a strategic level, suggesting improvements to customer service strategy and helping in their implementing. Qualification Structure: To achieve the level 3 NVQ certificate in customer service, learners must achieve: minimum credit value of 55. The learner must achieve 12 credits from the mandatory units. A further 30 credits must be achieved by completing a minimum of one unit from each optional group. These groups are: impression and image, delivery, handling problems and development and improvement. Mandatory Units: : Organise & deliver customer service. L3 5 credits : The customer service environment. L3 5 credits : Understanding customers. L3 4 credits : Principles of business. L3 10 credits : Manage professional development. L3 3 credits : Resolving a customer s issues. L3 4 credits
7 Business Administration Level 2 Anyone who is working in or wanting to work in a business support role. For those interested in learning how to carry out every day administrative tasks. What Does it Cover? Learners must demonstrate that they are able to perform the job or any appropriate tasks. Develops an understanding of the policies and procedures used in the work place when completing different tasks. Understanding how to work as part of a team and individually to ensure that tasks are complete to deadlines. Qualification Structure: To achieve the level 2 NVQ certificate in business and administration the learner must achieve: a minimum of 45 credits overall. A minimum of 21 credits must be from mandatory units and 24 from the optional units. A minimum of 14 credits from Group A optional units. A maximum of 10 credits from group B and a maximum of 6 credits from group C. Mandatory Units: Group A : Communication within a business. L2 3 credits : Principles of administrative services. L2 4 credits : Principles of business document production. L2 3 credits : Understand employer organisations. L2 4 credits : Manage own performance & development. L2 4 credits : Develop working relations with colleagues. L2 3 credits
8 Business Administration Level 3 Anyone who has been working in an administration role for some time and preparing to move into a leadership role by learning how to effectively supervise others and contribute to wider departmental or organisational change. What Does it Cover? Manage own performance in a business environment. Evaluate and improve own performance in a business environment. Be able to evaluate own solution to the business problem. Be able to recognise and analyse business problems. Qualification Structure: To achieve the level 3 NVQ certificate in business and administration the learner must achieve: a minimum 58 credits overall. 27 credits from the five mandatory units and 31 credits from the optional units. A minimum of 13 credits from Group A optional units. A maximum of 10 credits from group B and a maximum of 8 credits from group C. Mandatory Units: Group A : Communicate within a business environment. L3 4 credits : Principles of business communication. L3 4 credits : Principles of administration. L3 6 credits : Principles of business. L3 10 credits : Manage professional development. L3 3 credits
9 Health & Social Care Level 2 This course will suit you if you are a care worker or want to get your first care job. If you re already working in care, you probably work mainly under supervision. You want to increase your skill and take on more responsibility. What Does it Cover and Qualification Structure: To get the level 2 diploma you must achieve at least 46 credits from the courses nine mandatory units: Introduction to communication in health, social care or children s and you people s. Introduction to personal development in health, social care or children s and young people s settings. Introduction to equality and inclusion in health, social care or children s and young people s settings. Principles of safeguarding and protecting in health and social care. The role of health and social care worker. Implement person-centred approaches in health and social care. Contribute to health and safety in health and social care. Handle information in health and social care or children s and you people s settings. Optional Units: You may choose from a range of optional units to suit your career plans. The units include: Causes and spread of infection. Understand the impact of acquired brain injury on individuals. Approaches to rights and choices for individuals with dementia while minimising risks.
10 Health & Social Care Level 3 Level 3 is ideal if you re a care worker and you have some responsibility in your workplace. You sometimes work without supervision. You want to develop or demonstrate your skills, perhaps to become a senior care worker. What Does it Cover and Qualification Structure: There are two pathways available at level 3: Diploma in health and social care (children and young people). Diploma in health and social care (adults). Depending on the pathway you choose, you complete either nine (adults) or fourteen (children and young people) core units from a range, among them are: Promote equality and inclusion in health, social care or children s and young people s settings. Assessment and planning with children and young people. Promote person-centred approaches in health and social care. Optional Units: You may choose from a range of optional units to suit your career plans. The units include: Work with babies and young children to promote their development and learning. Purpose and principles of independent advocacy. Support individuals to access education, training or employment.
