3 Improved Developmental Appropriateness The WPPSI IV UK includes extensive content changes, based on current research and feedback from experts and clinicians. We ve redesigned the WPPSI IV UK taking into consideration the unique challenges in assessing young children; ensuring all aspects of the assessment are developmentally appropriate. Where possible we ve simplified and shortened directions for children and included demonstration, sample and teaching items to ensure clarity of task demands. New Working Memory Subtests and are two new working memory subtests for children as young as 2 years 6 months. These clinically reliable and child-friendly measures are specifically designed to provide information about visual and visual-spatial working memory difficulties and aid early intervention. The child views a stimulus page of one or more pictures for a specified time and then selects the pictures from options on a response page. Zoo locations The child views one or more animal cards placed on a zoo layout for a specified time, and then places each card into the previously viewed locations. 4 New Processing Speed Subtests Processing speed can now be examined via three new game-like subtests. Each subtest has been built with careful consideration to the cognitive, motor, and language development of young children. Artwork is engaging and children will now use an ink dabber to indicate responses, minimising fine motor demands. Bug Search and Animal Coding are adaptations of WPPSI III UK Symbol Search and Coding. Cancellation is a more developmentally appropriate adaptation of the WISC IV UK version. 5 Expanded Test Structure The updates to the WPPSI IV UK structure have resulted in greater interpretative clarity and increased construct coverage offers greater flexibility and additions scores. 6 More Efficient Test Administration To make testing as efficient and user-friendly as possible, the following updates have been introduced: Testing time is maintained or reduced while construct coverage is increased. The overall number of items per subtest is fewer relative to the WPPSI-III. Examiner instructions are clear and concise, including shortened discontinue criteria and simplified substitution, invalidation, and proration rules. Stimulus book contents have been distributed to minimise the weight of the kit components. Suitable for use in the United Kingdom The UK standardisation project has been carried out on 448 individuals between the ages of 2 years 6 months and 7 years 7 months.
