2 BÜLENT GÖGDÜN, ILP Program Director ILP FACULTY BÜLENT GÖGDÜN (PROGRAM DIRECTOR) is a program director at ESMT Berlin. He focuses on technologybased industries and executive coach ing. Having studied mechanical engineering, Bülent enjoys working with technology companies. His four years of work experience as a consultant at the Boston Consulting Group triggered a personal search for alternative consulting ap proaches to support the development of executives and organizations. Today, he strongly believes in coaching as one of the most effective leadership development tools. He has continually participated in professional training in this field. In addition to his work as program director and coach, Bülent acts as an educational consultant supporting clients with their strategy development challenges and change man agement efforts. KONSTANTIN KOROTOV is an associate professor of organizational behavior and the director of the ESMT Center for Leadership Develop ment Research (CLDR), which he co-founded with Professor Manfred Kets de Vries. In addition to his academic work, he has more than 20 years of practical management and leadership de velopment experience in Europe, Asia, the Middle East, and the Americas. Konstantin conducts research on leadership development, leadership coaching, careers, and executive education. He has authored, co-authored, and coedited six books and multiple academic and practitioner articles, busi ness cases, and book chapters on leadership development and executive coaching. He has won multiple awards for his case studies, articles, and teaching excellence. Konstantin is a member of the editorial board of the Journal of Leadership and Organizational Studies. Additionally, he is the founder of the ESMT Coaching Colloquia series premier professional development events for the world s leading executive coaches. FRANCIS DE VERICOURT is a professor of management science at ESMT Berlin. Francis s general research interest is in operations excellence with an overlap in managerial decision-making. His current focus is on busi ness sustainability and social innovation. His research has been published in leading management journals, including Management Science, Operations Research, and Manufacturing & Service Operations Management. His work has won several awards. He is the current chair of the MSOM sustainability special interest group of the Institute for Operations Research and the Management Sciences. Francis is also on the editorial boards of several leading academic journals.

They will not only gain a deeper understanding of their natural qualities but also how these strengths actually equip them with the capability to lead their teams successfully in a fast-changing and complex world. By enabling them to act and interact in experiential settings and offering chances for feedback and reflection, we will help our participants enhance and strengthen their skills. Furthermore, they will develop strategies to better handle real-life challenges with the help of their peers and coaches. ORGANIZATIONAL BENEFITS This program offers organizations the opportunity to stop following the stereotypes about who an effective leader is or what good leadership looks like, and rather support the development of all managers who can potentially create value including those who are not actively grabbing the spotlight. The Energy of the Introverted Leader is designed to support introverted leaders in becoming even more effective with both extraverted and introverted followers. It gives organizations the chance to enrich their leadership culture and broaden the diversity of thinking and acting in the managerial ranks.
4 Research shows that action-oriented managers who talk assertively and behave dominantly are not only more likely to emerge as winners in selection and promotion processes but are also perceived as being more effective by both supervisors and subordinates. We live in a world that appreciates extraverted behavior. However, recent studies are increasingly showing that extraverted leadership is not the only way to get things done effectively in organizations. Moreover, it can become a liability that undermines the performance of employees and teams. There is an increasing understanding that we need to make better use of introverted leadership as well. As innovative companies strive to give employees more voice, more opportunities to shape decisions, and more responsibility in interactions with customers, introverted leadership working from behind the scenes becomes particularly relevant. With this program, we want to demystify extra- and introversion and show that both personality preferences can contribute to powerful leadership behavior. We will explore how introverted leaders while staying within their natural strengths can make use of their qualities more effectively and develop a calm but powerful voice and stance in an extraverted world. Our participants will also get the opportunity to hone their leadership skills in a number of experiential settings. They will be able to reflect on the impact they are making and refine their strategies for dealing with critical situations. TOPICS INCLUDE Making sense of extra- and introversion in light of new research on leadership Leading in a rapidly changing and increasingly complex world sharpening the advantages of introverted leadership Mastering critical leadership situations turning feedback and reflection into action Developing strategies to leverage the strengths and qualities of introverted leaders with the help of peers and coaches METHODS We have designed an experience-based program for managers who want to become better leaders. As a result, ILP relies on methods specifically chosen for this group, including mini-lectures, case studies, class discussions, peer consultations, group coaching, role plays, and group work. 5 POSTGRADUATE DIPLOMA IN MANAGEMENT YOUR RETURN ON INVESTMENT The Postgraduate Diploma in Management is a universitylevel certificate offered by ESMT Berlin. To acquire this diploma, candidates have to enroll for a minimum of three program weeks (18 days) spread over a period of 30 months. The postgraduate syllabus covers all major topics on leadership and general management. We have further divided the course of study into three tracks: Leadership and Social Responsibility, Managing Tech nology, and General Management. The tracks allow par ticipants to customize their course of study to suit their personal needs. The programs have been designed and will be led by ESMT faculty members and ESMT visiting faculty, who will also advise participants throughout their studies. Programs are offered in both German and English. Tuition fees vary, depending on the number of programs participants choose. The Energy of the Introverted Leader is part of the cluster Leadership and Social Responsibility and counts toward 3 days necessary to gain the diploma.
