7 NCSLI WORKING COMMITTEES As an active member you are encouraged to get involved in NCSLI Committees to discuss and advance measurement science with respect to various technical and managerial subjects. Each committee is organized by a volunteer leader. Activities can include creation or clarification of new measurement standards and recommended practices (RPs), learning and development projects that expand understanding and visibility of measurement science, or focused projects to expand test and measurement and metrological practices within a specific industry segment. Measurement Requirements and Analysis Measurement Comparison Programs eg: Josephson Voltage System ILC Intrinsic and Derived Standards Creates recommended intrinsic/derived standards practices (RISP s) to describe necessary equipment requirements, uncertainties essential to realize primary standards that are intrinsic or derived, such as deadweight pressure gauges. Measurement Standards and Practices Standards Writing Group Develops new national measurement standards (eg: ANSI/NCSL Z540.3) for the metrology community, and proactively supports developing international standards that impact metrology and testing (eg: ANS/ISO/IEC 17025). Metrology Practices Group Includes discussion on equipment calibration intervals, measurement decision risk, statistical process control, and measurement uncertainty analysis. Dimensional Measurements Aimed at developing tutorials, documents and recommended practices to communicate dimensional measurement integrity and linking with international standards bodies. Laboratory Operations Testing Laboratories Liaises with products industry, regulatory agencies and others to review and share testing methodologies, compliance guidelines and processes. Calibration Procedures Promotes the quality and uniformity of procedures used for calibrating measuring and test equipment, through information exchange, and recommended practices for development, validation and maintenance of calibration and certification procedures. Laboratory Facilities Collects, develops, reviews and disseminates information relative to laboratory design and process. Creates recommended practices and a point of contact for member organizations on laboratory design. Accreditation Resources and Liaison Forum for all accrediting bodies to review latest national and international developments on standards relative to insuring consistent laboratory accreditation. Provides practical assistance to member organizations to pursue and maintain formal lab accreditation. Industrial Programs These committees spearhead discussion on current test and metrological issues relative to specific industries, provide recommended practices, and communicate on subjects such as measurement advancements, traceability, process control, and benchmarking. Current industry committees include: healthcare, chemical, utilities, airline and automotive measurement science. Learning and Development Training Resources Provides learning tools on subjects related to measurement science to support development, and implementation of learning products to this community. These include course creation which results in continuing education units (CEUs). Education Liaison and Outreach Provides multiple forums for educators to interact on topics related to measurement science learning and development and supporting initiatives. Scholarship Program NCSLI provides monetary scholarship programs aimed at encouraging continuing education in measurement science related fields.
