2 PRESENTING OUR CLIENT ~ East Side Neighborhood Services ABOUT THE ORGANIZATION ~ Organized in 1915, East Side Neighborhood Services (ESNS) is a nonprofit human service agency that provides social and other services to individuals, families and the communities of the Minneapolis region. With a budget of over $7 million and more than 100 employees, the organization is fiscally strong and enjoys enthusiastic support from business, government and the philanthropic community. It is governed by a dedicated board of directors. East Side Neighborhood Services assists people of all ages and backgrounds in realizing a higher quality of life. Since its founding, East Side Neighborhood Services has served immigrant, refugee and low income individuals and families. These services address access to basic needs and issues of family violence, early childhood education, food insecurity, truancy and school performance, employment & training, mental health, senior transportation, school readiness and literacy, employment, and aging. Services are available at its main building and seven other locations. SERVICES PROVIDED ~ East Side offers a variety of programs tailored to meet the needs and interests of a diverse community. The work of ESNS focuses on strengthening the community in the following areas: Family and Youth Support Youth Empowerment Senior Community Food Stability Income Stability

3 Specific programs include: Northeast Child Development Center - The NECDC provides quality early childhood education and full time daycare to children six weeks through the age of five (or kindergarten entrance), to promote school readiness. NECDC, licensed by the Minnesota Department of Human Services, is a 4 star rated Parent Aware program and is accredited by the National Association for the Education of Young Children Employment Programs - The Employment & Training Department works with low income, unemployed, or underemployed job seekers who would like to earn a livable income and attain their financial and educational goals through achieving full time work. Participants get support to build upon skills needed to secure and retain full-time permanent employment through training, coaching, career exploration and retention counseling (ie Title V of the Older Workers Act). Metro Food Programs - ESNS manages three metro food programs: The Senior Food Shelf serves adults 55 and over residing in Hennepin County. The need for this service continues to grow. The High Rise Mobile Food Shelf delivers a food shelf twice a month to 40 subsidized high rise buildings with residents who are 55+ or disabled. Over 200 residents volunteer to set up the food shelf and organize each distribution under the guidance of ESNS staff. Glendale Food Shelf provides supplemental and culturally specific food assistance to the Glendale Townhomes in southeast Minneapolis. Glendale is a diverse community of families with the majority being immigrants from East Africa and Southeast Asia. Empowering Vital Aging - East Side has been awarded a Live Well at Home grant from the Minnesota Department of Human Services to expand services for older adults. The result is a new program called Empowering Vital Aging (EVA). EVA promotes access to community-based services for older adults to Live Well at Home. The goal of EVA is to leverage the broad array of programs for older adults at East Side and to serve as a connector to additional opportunities/services and supports that allow for improved health outcomes and vital aging. Adult Day at Friendship Center - Since 1976, East Side Neighborhood Services Adult Day at Friendship Center has served people with changes in cognitive and or physical functional capacity due to onset of disease, illness, disability, or just normal aging. The services help older adults remain independent, relieve loneliness, and improve health and quality of life. In addition, Adult Day provides participants caregivers much needed respite and peace of mind.

4 Senior Transportation - Accessible door-through-door transportation for older and/or disabled adults. Lift-equipped vehicles serving seniors 60-and-older. Family Violence Intervention Program - East Side Neighborhood Services provides an 18-week Educational Series for Assaultive Behavior to individuals who are either court mandated or voluntarily seeking non-violent conflict resolution skills. This is an outcome-based program that lasts for a minimum of 18 weeks. The program is structured for participants to take responsibility for their own behaviors and to show lasting and long-term behavioral change. The Family Violence Intervention Program includes both Domestic Violence and Anger Management and are offered for both men and women who are struggling with these issues. Youth Programs - The ESNS Youth Department is proud to partner with the United Way, Minneapolis Public Schools and the Minnesota Department of Education's 21st Century Community Learning Centers program to provide high quality out-of-school time programming at five centers. Over 400 young people are served annually through these programs. Each youth receives academic support, arts enrichment, leadership development and much more. The Youth Department of ESNS offers programs to Northeast and Southeast Minneapolis youth at numerous sites in area schools, park buildings, and community centers, bringing asset building skill development opportunities to community youth. The mission of East Side s Youth Department is creating places that empower and educate all youth to thrive. Camp Bovey Located in the beautiful Northwoods of Wisconsin on Lake Metzger, Camp Bovey s 200 acres offer the perfect setting for young people and teens to experience the wonders of nature in a safe and exciting environment. Camp Bovey gives youth a place to have fun while participating in outdoor activities that help campers build respect for themselves, one another and the environment. Menlo Park Academy - Menlo Park Academy is a contract alternative high school provided through the Minneapolis Public Schools. The program serves up to 75 students and is focused for students in 10th to 12th grade up to the age of 21 who are seeking a high school diploma. Ninth graders are considered for attendance after their first semester in high school.

Values: Equity ~ Community Building ~ Building Resiliency ~ Strength-based ~ Life-Long Learning ~ Empowerment ~ Key Collaborations ~ Youth are Assets ~ Critical Thinking PRESENTING THE POSITION OF PRESIDENT ~ The President provides strategic leadership for the organization and oversees all staff, budgetary and programmatic activities. The President reports directly to the ESNS Board of Directors made up of community leaders. This position is open due to the retirement of long-time ESNS leader Bill Laden. Primary Responsibilities 1. Leadership and Vision Offer and communicate a cohesive strategic vision for the organization. This vision should unify staff, external stakeholders and individual programs in a common direction. Lead, motivate and support staff to realize the mission and goals of the organization through high quality programs, strong administrative practices and a commitment to accountability for results. Maintain the independence and integrity of the organization in its role as an intermediary with other public, private and nonprofit partners.

6 2. Community & Public Relations Serve as spokesperson for the organization to external sources. Connect with a wide and diverse group of partners and stakeholders, including elected officials, civic and business leaders, nonprofit allies and the general public. Work with staff to develop key messages and positions and to effectively share those messages through the website, , social media, print and broadcast outlets and internal communications. 3. Fundraising Provide strategic direction for fundraising initiatives with corporate and philanthropic partners and individual major donors. Assure a strong fundraising function with diverse revenue sources. Work with development staff to create and implement a fundraising plan to meet and exceed the annual organizational budget. Build and maintain relationships with corporate and philanthropic partners and individual donors and actively and directly engage in fundraising. 4. Program Management Oversee existing programs and the development of new programs to further the organization s mission. Evaluate, measure and share the results of programs; make changes as needed to enhance programmatic outcomes. 5. Leadership and Management of Senior Staff Hire, supervise, support and evaluate senior leadership of the organization. Ensure a positive culture of continuous improvement of programs and services and professional development for staff. Ensure accountability of program goals through evaluation and commitment to the use of data. 6. Financial Management Work with the Director of Finance to ensure strong systems of financial management of the organization. Monitor finances of the organization on a monthly, quarterly and yearly basis. Ensure the organization s continued financial sustainability through long-term planning, forecasting and oversight. 7. Board of Directors Engage with board members, using their abilities to further the goals of the organization. Support board members and committees with regular and open communications. Serve as ex officio member of board committees as needed.

7 DESIRED EXPERIENCE, LEADERSHIP STYLE AND CHARACTERISTICS~ The fully qualified candidate will possess at least years of related leadership experience with a nonprofit service organization, although comparable leadership experience in other sectors will also be considered. He or she will have strong external relations and fundraising experience with the ability to engage a wide range of stakeholders and cultures. A bachelor s degree is required and an advanced degree in social sciences, business administration, or nonprofit management is preferred. An understanding of the issues and problems facing the region or comparable urban regions would be beneficial. Additionally, demonstrated experience with issues of diversity and inclusion related to persons of other racial, cultural, religious, gender and sexual orientation backgrounds and the ability to develop productive and collegial relationships with various stakeholders and constituencies is key. The successful candidate will be a visionary servant-leader and advocate, with proven managerial and leadership skills. The President will inspire others and will enhance and grow relationships with staff, donors, volunteers, the clients served, and local civic leaders. He or she will represent the organization to various external constituencies. Other qualifications include: People Leadership- Experience managing and developing people, building collaborative teams, positively resolving conflicts and creatively solving problems. Capability to unify internal and external stakeholders around a shared purpose. External Leadership Proven experience as an external relationship leader representing an organization to various external constituencies and in promoting external partnerships. He or she will be politically astute, and able to work thoughtfully and diplomatically with a variety of stakeholder groups. Funds Development Successful experience in leading nonprofit fundraising activities including annual campaigns, major gift solicitation, grantwriting and events. Strategy Capable strategic leadership skills in developing organizational strategies, collaborating with high level stakeholders, and implementation. Financial Management- Experience overseeing financial reporting and budgets. Experience understanding grant compliance and management. Operational Management Successful experience leading, developing, and growing the programs and operations of a complex and diverse social service organization. Nonprofit Board Experience Skills in working with and for a volunteer board of directors and an approach of cultivating strong and positive board member relationships will be highly valued. Specific Skills Working knowledge of the functioning of social service organizations and related partner organizations in the area.

The President will have the ability to communicate with individuals and groups of all sizes from staff teams, elected officials and business organizations to individual donors, volunteers, partner organizations and community groups. The ideal candidate will bring an orientation that honors the past and looks to the future. He or she will be adaptable, creative and innovative. He or she will be a capable problem solver with an ability to focus on multiple tasks and priorities within a complex organization. A President who can unify an organizational culture made up of multiple locations and programs is sought. Finally, the following characteristics are critical for the new President: Integrity, honesty, enthusiasm, positive attitude, commitment and mission-orientation.
