5 Brookfield Renewable s Facilities 5 Brookfield Renewable s NERC Assets are registered as the following: GO/GOP/TO/TOP/DP/TSP 2 main control centers with 2 alternates 13 registered NERC Compliance Registration ID# s - SERC(2), RF(1), WECC(3), NPCC(7) 5 IESO Market Participant ID s Within those 13 NCR s, we have 48 assets that are applicable to the NERC Standards (5 wind farms, 2 thermal plants, 40 hydro assets and 1 transmission system)

6 Brookfield Renewable s Control Centers 6 Staffed 24/7 by qualified operators who remotely control facilities spread across North America Operators are trained on GOP/TOP/DP requirements Control Centers are NERC CIP V3 applicable/secured TOP Certified Operators

7 Regional Entities (Subject Matter Experts) 7 Accountable for compliance of their assets The Single Point of Contact for all compliance related matters Responsible for keeping records current and that no tests are missed (PRC-005) Review all relay operations and provide reason why the relay operated Report any Possible Violation to our Compliance Group for review Assist in providing information for audits Review all documentation applicable to their facility before Compliance Group submits on their behalf to the applicable Regulator

8 Compliance Group 8 Provides NERC standard updates to applicable entities New versions of a standard and its impact Reviews all of the NERC Lessons learned and pass along to groups affected Submits responses to all self-certifications, quarterly reports or data requests for applicable entities Provides clarification and answer questions associated to NERC Acts as primary compliance contact for all assets Audit lead/point of contact

9 Brookfield Renewable s Internal Compliance Program (ICP) 9 Established Formal Compliance Program We created Reliability Compliance Procedures (RCP s) to describe how the entity is compliant with the Applicable NERC Standard/Requirement All employees are aware of our Compliance Program, and can find it either on our network shared drive or also on the company intranet page Train employees on our Compliance Program Our Compliance Program is supervised by a designated company officer (VP) We have established a confidential Compliance Reporting Hotline We self-report as soon as possible when we have identified that a violation may have occurred **Brookfield Renewable s ICP follows the 13 Questions FERC provided during their 2005 Orders

10 WECC Audit Experience 10 Audit Details GO/GOP Audit of Powell River Energy Inc. was received on January 16, Standards were part of the scope (CIP and Non-CIP) Audit Period: November 1, 2010 April 17, 2012 Audit was an Off-Site audit with Conference Calls Lessons Learned Make sure you follow the correct version that is in effect in that Province/Region Keep RSAW s up-to-date Provide as much detail and description as you can without confusing the auditor Don t provide information that is not part of the scope

11 IESO/MACD CIP Audit Experience 11 Audit Details CIP Audit of an Ontario Blackstart Facility Notice of Audit was received on July 16, An On-site Audit at Brookfield office November NERC CIP Standards 99 requirements were part of the scope (Originally 92 requirements) Audit Period: January 1, 2012 July 16, 2014 Lessons Learned A mock audit before the actual Audit was beneficial to show we are following the NERC CIP Standards Know your timelines of when the audit submission is due Don t provide misleading answers, as this will result in additional scope Audit takes priority over other work items

12 Take Away Points 12 Keep RSAW s up-to-date and use these to understand your level of compliance Automate any process you can Participate in your region s compliance workshops Documentation is the only way to prove compliance Understand the new BES definition and how it applies to you Know that different regions have specific Standards applicable only to their region The Compliance Auditors are not out to get you so don t panic when an Audit Notification is received
