1 Highlights and key benefits from Alpha Chi Omega s strategic plan

2 Growing, changing to better serve you Alpha Chi Omega is the organization it is today because of leaders and members who recognized the importance of thinking beyond the moment, planning for the future and enacting change. To direct our future, the boards of our Fraternity, Foundation and Housing Corporation have collectively adopted a five-year strategic plan.

3 Driven by mission, vision, principles and member benefits. Like any smart strategic plan, ours is grounded in our mission, vision and guiding principles (which also constitute key membership benefits). It also seeks to underscore our new brand, one designed to distinguish Alpha Chi Omega from other women s organizations. Mission The Fraternity s mission forms the ultimate goal of our strategic plan. It is: Enrich the lives of members through lifetime opportunities for friendship, leadership, learning and service. The missions of our other two corporations support the Fraternity s mission. They are: ~ Foundation: Support the educational and philanthropic purposes of Alpha Chi Omega through effective fundraising and stewardship of financial resources. ~ National Housing Corporation: Enhance the experience of Alpha Chi Omega s collegiate members through the promotion, support and development of appropriate, desirable and safe facilities. Vision Alpha Chi Omega has a clear vision. It explains what success looks like to us: Ever-increasing numbers of qualified women select Alpha Chi Omega and make it an integral part of their lives. Principles/Benefits When women choose Alpha Chi Omega, they get four key benefits: ~ Friendship ~ Leadership ~ Learning ~ Service

4 The Five R formula When we look at objectives, strategies, tactics and outcome measures in our plan, we apply a formula we call the Five Rs. In a nutshell, these state that being a relevant organization, driven by a strong reputation, will enable Alpha Chi Omega to recruit members, retain them and generate the resources necessary to sustain and grow the whole organization. Here s a picture depicting how this works: Applying this formula, our plan has five goals: 3 Ensure RELEVANCE. Enhance and create meaningful, differentiating benefits for those who join, remain with, donate to and collaborate with Alpha Chi Omega. 3 Grow REPUTATION. Enhance Alpha Chi Omega s reputation as a well-known, well-connected and highly respected women s organization. 3 RECRUIT Members. Use enhanced benefits and stronger reputation to recruit members and build membership capacity in innovative ways. 3 RETAIN Members. Use enhanced benefits, stronger reputation and retooled engagement opportunities to retain members throughout their lifetimes. 3 Maximize RESOURCES. Alpha Chi Omega will maximize resources for the benefit of its members by using knowledge-based, ethical decision-making and sound business practices.

5 action plan To achieve each goal, the boards of our three corporations established priority tactics. Included here are the highlights. Ensure relevance ~ Continue to employ member research that leads to continuous improvement in member services, operations and relevance of programming. ~ Launch the four-year Alpha Chi Omega collegiate experience to offer our members unique life and leadership training that complements their college curriculum and helps prepare them for post-graduation success. ~ Research, develop, and launch lifetime programming to engage alumnae, increase volunteerism, drive donations and increase retention from collegiate to alumna years. ~ Enhance career development and networking among members to advance their careers and better connect them to one another and our organization. Grow reputation ~ Use our Real. Strong. Women. brand to develop and implement a marketing communications and reputation management plan that increases internal and external audience perceptions of Alpha Chi Omega as a meaningful, pacesetting, difference-making women s organization. ~ To get the most impact from our philanthropic efforts and/or collegiate and alumnae programming, research and develop nationwide signature Alpha Chi Omega program(s). ~ Further develop external relationships/partnerships with professional associations, university administrators, other fraternal organizations, parents, local/university communities and facility owners/tenants where there are Alpha Chi Omega chapters. ~ Enhance the reputation of Alpha Chi Omega by providing properties that are safe, well-maintained and positively viewed by all our stakeholders.

6 Recruit members ~ Develop and implement an aggressive extension and colonization plan. ~ Develop and implement a comprehensive recruitment plan that reflects our values and brand position. ~ Provide members with positive living environments that encourage them to join and enhance their educational and emotional/social growth. Retain members ~ Continue to develop, deploy and manage meaningful volunteer opportunities for roles in all three corporations. ~ Use technology to increase member interaction with each other and Alpha Chi Omega. Maximize resources ~ Develop long-range financial plans to make the most of limited financial resources by controlling costs and/or increasing revenue. ~ Develop a comprehensive business plan for all Alpha Chi Omega properties that includes: (1) education and training for Local House Corporations, employees, and chapter members; (2) financial models and strategies; (3) optimization of volunteer support; and (4) long-term planning. ~ Increase funding for our three corporations and our programs, philanthropies and facilities by expanding our donor base, raising more dollars, maximizing investment returns and exploring new revenue streams. ~ Create and launch philanthropy initiatives to develop the next generation of Alpha Chi Omega philanthropists: our collegians and young alumnae. ~ Ensure that every contactable member knows and understands how our Foundation supports our Fraternity. ~ Provide excellent stewardship to all donors, and earn the right to be a top giving priority among our members. ~ Maximize housing revenue via properties that are attractive to members, filled to capacity and competitive with on-campus and off-campus options. ~ Maximize energy-cost savings via environmentally friendly practices at all facilities.

7 Outcome measures Every activity in our plan has specific outcome measures. These are updated along with annual work plans that are carefully reviewed by our three boards. Through these plans, our staff knows what s expected of them and where our priorities lie for any period of time. Conclusion, thanks and a request for your help We re excited to have priorities established, clear member benefits in mind, and a lean, actionable game plan for achieving them. As always, our strategic plan is built with you in mind, and with full recognition that we can only accomplish this important work with your support and engagement.
