1 LEADERSHIP PROFILE Chief Executive Officer (CEO) Marcus Jewish Community Center of Atlanta (MJCCA) Atlanta, GA To foster and ensure a vibrant greater Atlanta Jewish community by providing programs and services of distinction that attract, involve, and inspire meaningful connections and promote Jewish values. MJCCA mission THE OPPORTUNITY The Marcus Jewish Community Center of Atlanta (MJCCA) is among the largest Jewish community centers in the world. The MJCCA is a thriving $24 million organization serving over 55,000 people a year. With origins that date back more than a century, the MJCCA is among Atlanta s most significant and impactful Jewish institutions. This is a time of momentum and promise at the MJCCA. The organization is in excellent financial shape. It hosts robust programs with high participation across all generations. Revenues and fundraising have been growing as membership has held steady at 4400 family units, or some 11,300 individual members. The MJCCA s modern, multi-purpose Zaban Campus sits on close to 53 acres in north Atlanta. At other locations, the MJCCA runs the Sunshine Preschool and Camp Barney Medintz, a residential summer camp in Cleveland, Georgia. The organization partners with some 200 organizations and local businesses. The MJCCA is poised for new leadership and success. A committed, talented and tenured staff manages programs, operations, marketing and
2 Page 2 of 6 revenue generation. Over 600 volunteers, many with deep JCC ties and history, are involved with the MJCCA. A successful recent capital campaign raised $7.5 million for facilities improvements. In March, two MJCCA governance bodies merged to create a single, 18-member Board of Directors to enhance efficiency, innovation and growth. The new CEO will build on the MJCCA s momentum, taking the organization to its next level of accomplishment. The CEO will partner with the Board and staff to: Expand the MJCCA s impact through innovative approaches that engage more people and increase membership, revenues and philanthropic support. Explore opening one or more new locations, as well as strategic partnerships, in order to better engage and serve the entire metro Atlanta Jewish community. Maximize the MJCCA s opportunities by focusing on best-inclass programs and facilities, community building and service to members. Build trusted, positive relationships, visibility and productive partnerships across the greater Atlanta community. THE ORGANIZATION The MJCCA is a vibrant $24 million 501(c)3 nonprofit dedicated to fostering and serving the greater Atlanta Jewish community in ways that inspire meaningful, lasting connections and promote Jewish values. People across all generations participate in programs that strengthen social connections, health and wellness, arts and culture, Jewish life and learning. The MJCCA employs 500 full- and part-time staff members, plus over 600 seasonal employees. The MJCCA s programs are highly regarded and fully subscribed, including preschools, day and residential camps, an annual book festival, programs for people with special needs, health, fitness, swim and sports programs as well as afterschool, teen, adult and senior educational and other offerings. We turn everyday minutes into Jewish moments that are remembered for a lifetime.
3 Page 3 of 6 The current three-year strategic plan, developed in 2013, puts forth foundational goals. They are to: 1. Infuse Judaism throughout the MJCCA s culture and programs 2. Ensure long-term financial sustainability 3. Attract and retain the highest-quality lay and professional leadership 4. Create and implement an exciting, integrated and consistent brand and marketing plan 5. Use partnerships to better deliver services The program goals are to invest in member-centered, market-driven, facilitybased strategies that: Serve the large Jewish community who can access the main Zaban Campus. (85% of MJCCA members are Jewish) Employ metro-wide strategies to engage and connect the Jewish community across and adjacent to metro Atlanta Serve the greater Atlanta Jewish community Define success in terms of the member, and develop core programs and competencies to achieve it The MJCCA s challenges include identifying strategic next locations and program offerings, as the Zaban Campus is fully utilized; growing membership and the donor base; and sustaining distinctive, preferred offerings despite the plethora of competitive alternatives in the market. In its most recent fiscal year, concluding in August, the MJCCA raised $24 million in program, philanthropic, membership and other revenues. The organization has been growing in recent years. 4 Page 4 of 6 THE RESPONSIBILITIES The MJCCA seeks a compelling leader with passion for this mission and ability to lead the organization to its next achievements. The organization is strong, and the new CEO will be an inspiring innovator, grower and builder rather than a change agent. The CEO will: 1. Provide leadership, vision and inspiration. The CEO will be a magnetic, strategic leader with high aspirations, passion for the mission and a vision for growth and impact. The CEO will be credible, collaborative and innovative. In partnership with the MJCCA board and staff, the CEO will develop a long-range strategic plan that shapes the organization for a thriving future and builds membership, revenues and impact. 2. Be an expert manager of people and a complex business. The CEO will be an effective, participatory and engaging manager who appreciates and values talented staff. He or she will be an experienced team builder, collaborator and delegator who empowers and inspires staff. The CEO will have financial savvy and the ability to ensure high standards of fiscal management, business, member service and operating excellence. 3. Increase resources for the mission. The CEO will be superb at increasing support for the mission. She or he will build strong relationships with current donors and volunteers, and will grow and diversify the donor base. The CEO will strategically expand membership, program and other resources, including private support from individuals, foundations, planned giving and endowment income. 4. Enhance profile, community presence and impact. The CEO will be the face of the MJCCA, and a sought-after partner and thought leader in the Atlanta community. He or she will be gifted at connecting with diverse members of the business, civic, philanthropic and religious communities. Through collaboration and ideas, presence and participation, the CEO will make the MJCCA an even more central, valued partner and resource. 5. Identify successful new programs, venues and partnerships. The CEO will be astute at determining where the MJCCA needs to be geographically, evolving compelling program offerings and developing strategic partnerships. A natural collaborator and communicator, the CEO will strengthen existing partnerships with the Jewish Federation and others, and will find ways to align with new partners.

Passion for the MJCCA mission and community, and unquestionable integrity, are essential, as is the ability to work well with a strong Board and staff to build common vision and make things happen. Knowledge of the Atlanta Jewish community, and of membership and facilitiesbased programing, is ideal. Atlanta and its 20 surrounding communities are home to over five million residents and the world s busiest airport. The Atlanta metro area hosts six major institutions of higher learning, 15 Fortune 500 companies and some of the world s most notable public-benefit and nonprofit organizations.
