Recent reports shows that South Africa s manufacturing sector has outstripped mining in terms of overall input to the country s GDP, with the automotive sector claiming a fair chunk, while the pharmaceutical and steel sectors are coming up as well. Sadly, women who are the pillar of every economy are being sidelined from making decisions within the manufacturing sector. The proportion of women in leadership roles in manufacturing companies remains low in South Africa, yet the pool of experienced professionals is significant. This conference appeals to all women, in all levels of the manufacturing industry from the factory floor to the C-Suite, seeks to inspire the next generation of female leaders to pursue a career in manufacturing and this event will showcase amazing opportunities the manufacturing industry has to offer. For decades, women have been underrepresented in the sector and it s high time we close the gender gap within the manufacturing sector. Research indicates that companies/ organisations with diverse leadership are more profitable, so it is high time women in South Africa s manufacturing sector took a stand and be more involved in the decision making within the sector. This conference seeks to address these and other factors affecting women in manufacturing, textile and leather industries.
