2 The Workplace Parties are primarily responsible for planning work reintegration, identifying work reintegration opportunities, and identifying work reintegration issues in the workplace.
3 The WSIB actively supports the activities of the Workplace Parties in their efforts to achieve the best work reintegration outcome possible. The key services of the WSIB in the work reintegration process include: health recovery support education and advice case management work reintegration co-ordination accommodation assistance dispute resolution ensuring compliance with co-operation, re-employment obligations and Work Transition services
4 The Return to Work Specialist(RTWS) Goal is Return to Work with the Injury Employer
5 RTWS An expert work reintegration resource engaged early in the process to assist workplace parties in planning for a return to work. Return to work is always with the injury employer and may be: Pre-injury Pre-injury with accommodation Alternate work
6 RTWS Works with the workplace parties to develop a plan for return to work Identifies, removes or mitigates obstacles to return to work Completes job analysis of pre-injury or alternate work Identifies possible accommodations to pre-injury or alternate work
7 RTWS Assists in planning return to work in cases where a worker is not able to return to work immediately (pre-planning)
8 RTWS Can arrange for functional assessments such as: Functional Work Capacity Assessments to determine suitability of a specific job available with the injury employer Ergonomic Assessments where the essential duties are suitable but further assessment is required to determine appropriate modifications or adjustments to the work station and/or work environment
9 Work Transition Specialist (WTS) Primary goal is return to work with the Injury Employer
10 WTS An expert work reintegration resource is typically engaged when RTWS services have ended, or where it is known the RTWS cannot achieve a return to work outcome, and the worker is able to do some work
11 WTS Focus is on maintaining the employment relationship with the injury employer May have short term or long term involvement with the workplace parties Becomes involved when additional services are required to maintain the employment relationship with the injury employer
12 WTS In addition to the services provided by the RTWS, the WTS can explore other options with the injury employer by: Assessing worker for his/her Transferable Skills that might identify a fit for alternate work available in the short term or longer term Arranging for an external vocational assessment if necessary to identify worker s skills, abilities and aptitudes, including aptitude for learning new skills to help identify a potential match to available alternate work
13 WTS Can arrange for training-on-the-job with the injury employer Can arrange for short term training or up-skilling to address any gaps in the worker s skills to facilitate a return to alternate work with the injury employer
14 WTS If no suitable work is available with the injury employer, WTS may concurrently begin development of a Work Transition Plan that could include identifying a new Suitable Occupation (S0) and any training or other services required to complete the Plan
15 Work Reintegration Touch-points DOI CM addresses RTW barriers RTWS no later than 6 wks Initial meeting between worker, CM & WTS no later than 6 months WTS workplace with WPPs Vocational Assessment completed, if needed Vocational Assessment discussed with WPPs WT Plan approved no later than 1yr Adjust and amend WT plan, as required WT plan closure and RTW outcomes communicated CM = Case Manager RTWS = Return-to-Work Specialist WTS = Work Transition Specialist WPPs = Workplace Parties
