37 PIPELINE CLEANING AND GAUGING RusselSmith offers tailor made cleaning services based on a variety of cleaning applications with carefully selected components like brushes, cups, discs, magnetic separators and electronic instrumentation such as transmitters and pipeline data loggers. The contamination with debris, dust, scale, unwanted liquids and wax are major threats for the efficient and safe operation of pipelines. These substances can create an environment for aggressive corrosion and can lead also to increased pressure loss, blocked pipelines or clogged instruments. The offered service starts with the analysis of the actual condition based on past ILI measurements, pressure and flow readings, cleaning records and as build drawings or other available relevant documentation in close cooperation with the pipeline operator. Service Options All aspects from the cleaning request to the assessment of the cleaning program are covered with the flexibility to choose from various service options. 38 PIPE DATA LOGGER By combination of a differential pressure sensor with a high-resolution three axis accelerometer sensor system, the PDL can be used to detect and locate pipeline restrictions. Furthermore, the versatile data logger can be used to assess the cleaning progress and effectiveness of the cleaning tool it is attached to. PDL Analysis supports for example: Differential pressure for passage of installations Temperature profiles for wax and scale deposition models Supporting gauge plate results and feature localization Evaluation of run behavior by acceleration and pressure Absolute pressure profile for detailed hydraulic evaluation Determination of differential pressure peak for bypass calculation Indication of bends including bend angle Key Advantages Robust stainless steel housing Functions in any liquid or gaseous mediums Up to 20 MPa operating pressure; higher pressure capacities optionally available PDLs recognize data collected during the inspection run such as temperature of the medium, acceleration and pressure differences. 39 CALIPER/GEOMETRY INSPECTION We offer caliper or geometrical inspection service to inspect the construction quality of your pipeline, locate hidden third party damages, and to confirm non-obstructive passage for other subsequently used in-line inspection tools. Obstructions are then identified, sized, and located. In addition to the detailed geometric data features (i.e. bends, ovalities and dents), the geometry service also provides auxiliary data relating to operating conditions such as speed and temperature. Its unique, touchless measuring system ensures full circumferential coverage of the pipe wall due to its overlapping sensor configuration. 41 METAL LOSS INSPECTION (UT) Ultrasonic Inspection Ultrasonic inspection technology is well accepted by the industry and is an established method for the quantitative wall thickness measurement and for the detection and sizing of metal loss features in liquid pipelines. The full recording of the A-scan allows to maintain the detection and sizing capabilities even in the presence of debris, wax or paraffin layers on the inner pipe surface. In addition the thickness and thus the volume of these layers can be determined. 57 MOORING LINE MONITORING Reduce Costs and Simplify Operations The mooring line monitoring system was developed to detect failures in mooring lines immediately and without the need for costly inspections. The system consists of a sensor that detects abnormal effects and an autonomous floating satellite communication modem. The sensor can release the modem to transmit information to all required units once a predefined condition is met.
