Depending on what you ordered, your configuration may look somewhat different from what is shown here. 4 Environmental requirements (continued) This EMC cabinet ventilates from front to back; you must provide adequate clearance to service and cool the system. Depending on component-specific connections within the cabinet, the available power cord length may be somewhat shorter than the 15-foot standard. Width 60 cm (24.00 in.) Rear Access 91 cm (36.00 in.) If you intend to secure the optional stabilizer brackets to your site floor, prepare the location for the mounting bolts. (The additional brackets help to prevent the cabinet from tipping while you service cantilevered levels, or from rolling during minor seismic events.) The brackets provide three levels of protection for stabilizing the unit: Anti-tip bracket - Use this bracket to provide an extra measure of anti-tip security. One or two kits may be used. 6 Environmental requirements (continued) The cabinet bottom includes four caster wheels. The front wheels are fixed; the two rear casters swivel in a 1.75-inch diameter. Swivel position of the caster wheels will determine the load-bearing points on your site floor, but does not affect the cabinet footprint. Once you have positioned, leveled, and stabilized the cabinet, the four leveling feet determine the final load-bearing points on your site floor. 7 Power requirements Power cords and connectors depend on the type ordered with your system, and must match the supply receptacles at your site. For high availability, the left and right sides of any rack or cabinet must receive power from separate branch feed circuits. NOTE Each pair of power distribution panels (PDP) in the 40U-C cabinet can support a maximum of 24 A AC current draw from devices connected to its power distribution units (PDU). Most cabinet configurations draw less than 24 A AC power, and require only two discrete 240 V AC power sources. If the total AC current draw of all the devices in a single cabinet exceeds 24 A, the cabinet requires two additional 240 V power sources to support a second pair of PDPs. Use the published technical specifications and device rating labels to determine the current draw of each device in your cabinet and calculate the total. The following values (rated at 208 V AC) show typical current draws for families of CX3-series storage-system components. 8 CLARiiON management workstation environment and system requirements You can manage EMC CLARiiON storage systems with a command line interface or a supported web browser. Any host attached to the same network as the storage system can serve as the management station from which you manage and monitor the storage system; initializing the system requires a station on the same subnet. Each storage processor on a CX3-series system must connect either directly or through a switch to a management station. We recommend the following minimum configuration for the management workstation: Intel-compatible 500 MHz computer with at least 512 MB RAM and 50 MB of free disk space Video driver resolution set to a minimum of 1024x768 with 256 colors and small fonts Network Interface Controller US keyboard and pointing device DB-9 COM port connector Windows 2000, Windows Server 2003 or Windows XP for ease of installation and specific configurations; supported operating systems include AIX, ESX Server, HP-UX, Linux, and Solaris TCP/IP network connection to each storage processor in the system you will be managing and monitoring Java Runtime Environment (JRE) Standard Edition 1.4.2_13 installed. If necessary, download the JRE from the Sun Microsystems website at Web browser software: Microsoft Internet Explorer version 5.5 or greater, Netscape Navigator version 6.0 or greater, Mozilla or greater, or Firefox 1.0 or greater To initialize the storage system you will need a host connected to the same subnet as the storage system s SP. This host can be the management station, but it cannot be running AIX. IMPORTANT Updates, service tools, and current documentation require Internet access to a support website. 6

9 CLARalert monitor requirements The CLARalert software monitors your storage system s operation and automatically notifies your service provider of any error events. CLARalert software requires a monitor station, which is a host running a supported Windows (2000 or later) operating system. The monitor station cannot be a server (host connected to storage-system data ports), and it must be on the same network as your storage-system management ports. You can use a CLARiiON management station as your CLARalert monitor if it runs Windows and is not also used as a server. The CLARalert monitor can also run the NST if the station meets the requirements listed below. Navisphere Service Taskbar requirements The Navisphere Service Taskbar (NST) is a java-based desktop application that helps you update, install, and maintain your storage-system hardware and software. It also provides contact and storage-system information to your service provider. The NST runs from a 32-bit Windows (2000 or later) host and communicates over TCP ports 80 and 443. In environments that use , it supports Outlook (preferably 2003) as the local client. The NST supports MS ISA, Apache (mod_proxy) and squid proxy servers, with basic client authentication only. You can run the NST from a CLARiiON management station running windows, and from a CLARalert monitor. 7

10 CLARiiON firewall requirements To manage an EMC CLARiiON storage system from a workstation on the opposite side of a network firewall, you must open workstation ports as shown below. Applet communicates back to the storage system (once running) over port 443 (secure). These are also used for clone CLI. 2162/2163 An alternate pair of ports registered to EMC that can be used if the customer does not want to use ports 80/ EMCRemote (SymmRemote), which allows service personnel to log in to the SP Navisphere Agent. Used for navicli to SP Agent communication Used for file transfer by the Agent/CLI during the upgrade process Development debug (ktcons) connection. UDP ports 161 Used for SNMP query of the storage system and enabled only when the Fibre Alliance MIB is loaded with NDU. 162 Used for SNMP traps sent from the storage system or from a host agent. 8

11 Package dimensions and clearance Make certain your doorways and elevators are wide enough and tall enough to accommodate the shipping pallet and cabinet.
