4 Objectives of L3Pilot The overall objective is to test and study the viability of automated driving as a safe and efficient means of transportation, explore and promote new service concepts to provide inclusive mobility. Lay the foundation for the design of future, user-accepted, L3 and L4 systems, to ensure their commercial success. This will be achieved by assessing user reactions, experiences and preferences of the AD systems functionalities. Enable non-automotive stakeholders, such as authorities and certification bodies, to prepare measures that will support the uptake of AD, including updated regulations for the certification of vehicle functions with a higher degree of automation, as well as incentives for the user. Create unified de-facto standardised methods to ensure further development of AD applications (Code of Practice). Create a large bank of data to enable simulation studies of the performance of AD over time which can not be investigated in road tests, due to the time and effort needed. The data will be one product of the pilots. Create a standardised Europe-wide piloting environment for automated driving. L3Pilot 4

9 Evaluation Scope Overall evaluation of automated driving (AD) function with respect to the influence on technical, user & acceptance and driving & travel behaviour aspects. Assessment of long-term effects of AD on user attitudes and acceptance. Investigation of interactions between different traffic participants in different automation modes. Assessment of the readiness and reliability of AD functions. Development of tools for the effective analysis and evaluation of field data and enhance simulation tools for simulation in the impact assessment. Determination of safety, efficiency, mobility and economic impact of AD applications under mixed automated traffic conditions based on collected on the real world pilot data.
