4 COURSE OVERVIEW Workshop Concept ISA 300, Planning an Audit of Financial Statements, requires that at the planning stage of the audit, the auditor should establish an overall strategy for the audit, develop an audit plan, and reduce audit risk to an acceptably low level. The standard also requires that: Auditors should plan the audit work so that the engagement is performed in an effective manner. Assessing audit risk and inherent risk is an essential part of audit planning because it determines the quantity and quality of evidence that will need to be gathered and the staff that need to be assigned to the particular audit. The planning of the audit will also serve to strike the right balance between costs and quality for the auditor as it helps the auditor focus on risk areas and use resources well. Keynote As the workshop will be focusing on various International Standard on Auditing, it is important that the participants have a basic awareness of these standards. Workshop Agenda: With effective case studies this workshop will focus on the how an auditor should plan an audit and how this should be used to devise an appropriate audit strategy. Apart from ISA 300, the Standards to be tackled also include: 1. ISA 315, Identifying and Assessing the Risks of Material Misstatement through Understanding the Entity and Its Environment 2. ISA 320, Materiality in Planning and Performing an Audit 3. ISA 330, The Auditor s Responses to Assessed Risks 4. ISA 520, Analytical Procedures The workshop will also focus on how to identify high risk areas at planning stage such as accounting estimates and the involvement of related parties and how these affect the audit plan. The workshop will also briefly discuss the proposed changes to ISA 315 which is a current project for the IAASB.

6 SPEAKERS JOHN DEBATTISTA In 2013 John Debattista Co-founded Zampa Debattista and is now the Audit and Assurance Partner. John is also an IFRS and GAPSME specialist. John lectures at the final stages of ACCA, namely the Corporate Reporting paper. He also lectures the ACA course for the ICAEW, Institute Chartered of Accountants for England and Wales, namely the AFAR and Corporate Reporting papers. John is also a speaker in audit and accountancy seminars delivered by a number of institutes in Malta. He lectures a number of modules for the Diploma in IFRS provided by the Malta Institute of Accountants (Dip IFR]. John has worked abroad on a number of assignments which mainly related to gaming and financialservices namely in Zurich, Vienna, Linz, Graz, Bucharest and London. ALEXIA PSAILA Alexia Psaila joined Zampa Debattista in 2016 in the post of assurance Supervisor. Alexia has previously been an Assurance Services Senior Manager, and an Assurance Services Manager at a mid-tier accountancy and audit firm. Alexia has been responsible for a number of corporate and local government audits and audit reviews; for the preparation of accounts and compliance requirements of companies with a category 2; for planning and assigning work for the assurance services departments; as well as training new staff. She has delivered both internal and external seminars.
