Index Hello! A welcome note from Henric Dorfen Why is trademark registration so important? Because it is the basis for brand building. Why do customers love brands? Brands can create emotions. Why do investors love brands? Brands are more important than products or services. How to register your trademark? Let us handle the entire registration for you. Why choose us? Because you deserve the best.
First and foremost, welcome to trademarkprotector.com. My name is Henric Dorfen and together with my team I will be available for any questions you might ever come up with. We re glad you re here, and we hope this brochure, our web site and our videos will serve you as informative and helpful resources. Let me point out that, whilst we present you with a wealth of information online, we re always happy to hear from you and discuss your projects individually. On our site and in this brochure, we explain what makes trademark registration so important for new businesses, and show how simple and affordable it can be. We also explain why it is never too early to start a trademark search. If you re already well aware of the importance of registering a trademark, then great! We have the knowledge and expertise to help you get your trademark registered. All you have to do is contact us, then just leave it all to us. We ll take care of the boring stuff while you concentrate on making your product great. However, if you re new to the topic, or simply looking for more information on why and how to register a trademark for your business, then please read on, watch our videos or get in touch with one of our trademark advisors to seek free advice and run a free search. Page 3
Why is trademark registration so important? These days, brands are everything. The best companies have the best brands. Take Apple, for example. Apple doesn t build its own computers or products anymore. Instead, Apple designs and brands them while outsourcing production. For consumers it doesn t play any role whether the products are manufactured in the USA, in China, Korea or elsewhere. Consumers will buy the products because they trust the brand Apple. As one can imagine, it has been a long way to create this trust and the very first step has been the trademark registration. If you fail to register your trademarks there is nothing to stop unscrupulous people from copying, stealing and using your intellectual property. As soon as a brand starts getting popular, free riders and copycats will show up. That is a fact. Not having your name, slogan or logo protected, some unscrupulous companies will come up with almost identical web sites, packing or apps and leave your customers all confused. The ones buying from you will be happy and satisfied. The ones falling prey to a copycat, however, will be left unsatisfied and blame you for their annoyance. That makes it very clear: trademark registration should be amongst the first tasks for every company. Luckily, with us, trademark registration can be a simple and affordable task. We offer free advice and free searches and we love to hear from you especially at very early stages of your business. We will be happy to evaluate pros and cons of different names, slogans or logos and run various searches for you - at no cost and without any obligation. Page 4
Why do customers love trademarks? Nowadays, customers are flooded with providers, products and services. Many of them are almost identical in terms of functionality and quality. This insight is extremely important, so let s dig a little deeper. From a seller s point of view, the crowded market makes it hard to be noticed and attract buyers. From a consumer s point of view, the plethora of choices makes it hard to find the right product, the right company, the right service. Some spend weeks searching for the right product or service and the deluge of offers can be exhausting and frustrating. It is, therefore, no big surprise that customers found a much simpler route. Rather than evaluating the best provider again and again, they always buy products from the same brands; brands they trust. Having a brand to rely upon reduces the need to do research. You implicitly trust Google to know the answer, Uber to send you a clean car with a friendly driver and that at Starbucks, your mobile will automatically connect to the free WiFi. Life is so much easier this way. Often, once consumers are satisfied with a brand, they will stop looking for other offers. They will even accept higher prices, and actively promote their favourite brands through word of mouth. The best example of this is Apple. As you can see, with a successful brand a company can increase prices and at the same time reduce marketing costs. This boosts the company s profits to ever higher levels. What does that mean for you? It means you should think about brand building before launching your actual product or service. Luckily, you already found the right partner. We will be happy to evaluate whether your desired brand name, product name, slogan or logo is available for registration. Our initial search and advice is free of charge and comes with no obligation. Page 5
Why do investors love trademarks? There are primarily two reasons investors love trademarks. Initially, through early venture rounds, a trademark indicates professionalism. Later on, when a product or service has already been launched, brand popularity gives investors a very clear indication about the worth of the investment. Let s start and review the first point. Shark Tank, a well-known ABC series, gives a pretty clear picture of what investors are looking for: great potential and low risks. Certainly most of the ideas the show s investors are willing to fund wouldn t stand a chance of getting a bank loan. Even still, investors don t just throw their money away. Even the best idea will not attract funding if it lacks professionalism. Have you noticed how often these potential investors ask whether something has been patented, or trademarked? Having a trademark is a clear sign of professionalism. It shows you are not only developing a great product or service, but that you also know about the power and importance of brands. It shows that you are planning ahead. It proves that you have business acumen, and that places you ahead of all of those who just have great ideas but no clue about how to run a business. Registering a trademark is both simple and affordable. However, it does take time. The average application takes from 9 to 15 months. Having said that, allow me to explain that, for you, this means no more than a few s and phone calls with our team. The rest is simply waiting time, while the registrar evaluates your trademark before approving it. However, this is not something you can push through. If an investor asks for it, you cannot take any shortcuts. Hence, trademark registration should be amongst the first tasks of every business start-up. Page 6
Once you have a registered trademark you can start building your brand and that leads us to the second reason, why investors love trademarks. From that moment onwards, investors can evaluate the brand popularity. Simply put: the more popular your brand, the higher the investments. To demonstrate the importance of this brand popularity, consider the following examples: Uber, a company that has barely created any profit so far, is rated at $50 billion, due to nothing more than its brand popularity. Tesla, a company that didn t even reach 80,000 in car sales for 2016, is rated higher than Ford, which sold more than 150 million vehicles. Again, all because of the brand s popularity. So, as you can see, if you re looking to attract investments, having a clear, appealing, and protected brand is essential. Yes it s going to take time to build up your brand, but the sooner you get started, the sooner you ll have those all-important figures to show for it. Trademarking your brand is the first step. And trademarkprotector.com is here to help you, all the way. Page 7
How to register your trademark? I could write a novel about trademark registration at this point. However, I think all you want to know is how you can register your trademark without getting lost in bureaucracy. The answer to that question is very easy: Contact us and our friendly team today! Call us at or us at hello@trademarkprotector.com and we will guide you through all steps. Our initial advice and even the initial trademark searches are free of charge and come with no obligation. We will be happy to listen to you, get an understanding about your project and evaluate all possibilities. Page 8
