These products consist of various reinforcement materials of glass, carbon or aramid fibres combined with polyester, vinylester or epoxy resins. State of the art Pull-Winding facilities enable Exel to minimize the wall thickness, and resultant weight, whilst retaining and improving the stiffness and strengths compared to conventional pultrusion. The wide range of Exel tubes from 3mm to 300mm diameter, together with suitable wall thicknesses, different types of reinforcement and resins allow You to have an optimized product according to Your needs. 3 Flexibility in Design Glass and carbon fibres can be combined in various ratios and/or layers to design a product to meet your specific requirements. This ratio can involve unidirectional-, cross wound fibres, mats or fabrics out of different materials, in order to optimize the mechanical characteristics, cost and other specified parameters. The aforementioned ratios enable Exel to manufacture tubes with an E-modulus range from Gpa. In carbon-/ glass fibre hybrids, the higher the glass content the more cost effective the tube; the higher the carbon content the lighter and stiffer the tube. The Exelens nonwoven surface, whilst providing excellent finish and deep colours, also improves other properties such as UV- and chemical resistance. Increased UV- and chemical resistance is obtained by utilizing a vinylester instead of a polyester resin. However in order to further ensure weather resistance and water absorption characteristics - e.g. in Antenna Radome Tubes - Exelens tubes have a high glass content and do not incorporate fillers. Depending on the application the products also give the benefits of chemical and electrical resistance, thermal stability etc. Compared to metals, Exelens tubes are warm, pleasant to touch, clean, hygienic, corrosion free and comparably lighter in relation to equivalent strengths. Applications: telescopic poles, tool handles, antenna tubes and radome profiles, portable lightweight structures, safety ladders, hand rails, lamp posts, flag poles, fence posts, sprayer lances, waste water treatment profiles, musical instruments, golf flags, caravan awnings, working tents, exhibition stands, designer furniture and many more Exelite is a range of Pull-Wound tubes and hollow profiles made from HS-(High Strength) or HM- (High Modulus) carbon fibres. Exelite tubes are stronger, lighter and stiffer than Exelens tubes. They are made with a vinylester resin, but can also be supplied with various epoxy based hybrid resins. By using these hybrid resins higher impact resistance is achieved. Exelite HM tubes are used in applications with extreme demands on the stiffness to weight ratio. In these tubes HM-carbon fibre reinforcements are used in order to further increase the stiffness compared to Exelite HS. HS- and HM- fibres can also be combined in the structure, yielding stiffness values of GPa. Generally HM-fibres are used when the wall thickness or weight of the profile is critical. Exelite tubes are always black due to the colour of the carbon fibre. Note that carbon fibre tubes can not be used as insulators as carbon conducts electricity. The tubes have very good hoop strength and high stiffness, despite the thin (1mm) wall. The Ultralite's fabric surface creates an attractive technical look and combines ultra lightweight with high stiffness. Applications: mass critical applications, robotic arms, telescopic poles, microphone booms, paddle shafts Exel also manufacture a series of conical tubes. The versatility of the production process allows us to supply a wide variety of tapered tubes: - e.g. Small tubes tapering from 10mm to a tip of 3mm over a length of 1500mm. 6 Printing Exel Composite lattice masts. First in the world to meet the ICAO frangibility regulation for airport approach lighting support structures. The customer's name or other information may be printed on the tube surface. The following printing methods are available: Silk-screen printing, Ink injection and Tampo printing. Surface finish All Exelens glassfiber tubes and hollow profiles are produced with a Nonwoven surface finish unless otherwise agreed. Tubes can also be supplied with Plain, Lacquered finish or Nonwoven with Lacquer. Environment and quality Exel regards environmental, health and safety issues as an integral part of its operations.
