SHIFT²RAIL Stakeholder meeting Innovations Programs - IP4 & IP5 Understanding the needs of users and customers, Introduce IT technologies to make railways more attractive Y. Perréal, Thales Transportation 20 June 2014

IP4 : IT Solutions for Attractive railways services

Travelers Expectations: Seamless End To End Travel Experience Seamless as digital Always connected Passengers expect the same level of services for transport Seamless as multimodal and interoperable Mainline, Urban, Regional, Airline First and Last miles are critical (incl.soft modes) Global offer: shopping, booking, payment, validation, real-time information, re accommodation, mobile services

Building a Powerful Technical Enabler Based on an open interoperability framework Internet based distributed architecture Open to all providers and distribution channels End-users centric access Travel companion that gives access to all transport services and contains the rights to travel With specific guidance for PRM Connected with any transport services Shopping, Ticketing, Trip-tracker, etc. Whatever the mode of transport Travel shopping Booking Trip tracker Enhancing transport attractiveness Better connecting the transport offer with the demand side

IT Solutions for Attractive railways services Areas developed in IP4 Customer experience Applications Multimodal travel services Travel Companion Travel Shopping Trip Tracker Ticketing Technical framework Interoperability framework Business Analytics 5

IT Solutions for Attractive railways services - Foreseen areas of activities Technical Interoperability Interoperability framework Allowing a unified abstraction of the services for the different transport modes in the Single European Transport Area Based on unambiguous semantic web technologies, it masks the heterogeneity of the transport services Leveraging all existing standards, specifically TAP-TSIs, accelerating adoption and opening a competitive market of service providers. Allowing decentralised deployment or management 6

Technical Interoperability IT Solutions for Attractive railways services - Foreseen areas of activities Business Analytics Providing to the operators the ability to develop their own tools to refine their offer: dynamic planning of services, achieving increased flexibility and overall reliability of the rail system. improved calculation of the costs and benefits of future rail services, leading to a better allocation of rail investments. This development will consist in: Engineering specifications for architecture, data model & services design, Modules for travel & transport big data development, Core and support services development, and integration tests. Demonstrator instance 7

IT Solutions for Attractive railways services - Foreseen areas of activities Customer experience Applications Mobile Travel Companion concept : Based on user s preferences and constraints (case of PRM) Giving a unified access point for all transport services Storing all rights to travel in a simple and secured way Developing a demonstrator Trip- Tracker concept Providing personalized door to door journey information and en-route assistance, including movement in in-door areas Leveraging TAP TSI and extended it to multi-modal door to door Checking and anticipating for disruption of quality of services, including the use of social media principles Recalculating itineraries, ETA and proposing alternatives. Developing a demonstrator 8

Multimodal travel services IT Solutions for Attractive railways services - Foreseen areas of activities Develop one-stop-shop solutions and applications for multi-modal Travel shopping Develop Ticketing solutions enabling integrated door-to-door multimodal itineraries, using media independent ticketing data content in order to address interoperability between different modes. Using modular developments, based on open specifications and open interfaces 9

IP5 Technologies for Sustainable and Attractive European Rail Freight 20 June 2014

Technologies for Sustainable and Attractive European Rail Freight Freight electrification, brake and telematics Access and operation Wagon design Novel terminal, hubs, marshalling yards & sidings New freight propulsion concepts Page 11

Technologies for Sustainable and Attractive European Rail Freight Main challenges & objectives based on Market Studies Improve services and customer quality via the increase of productivity of present and new vehicles and handling time in intermodal terminals and train formation times as well as by enhancing capacity in new generation rolling stock technologies and cutting-edge terminal management systems. Reduced system costs both in terms of investment and operating costs by developing more versatile locomotives and freight wagons, higher levels of automation and higher energy-efficiency. Enhanced interoperability by both respecting and adopting TSIs and removing of open-points Simplify business processes by improving standardisation and reducing certification and authorisation burdens. 12

Technologies for Sustainable and Attractive European Rail Freight foreseen areas of activity 1. CAPACITY INCREASE Higher performance train and operation, also able to operate more like the regional trains Wagon electrification, modern braking and In-train communication. Efficient propulsion. Sensors, monitoring analysis. Operating performance facilitating blending & efficient terminal handling. Efficient coupling. Traffic Management System interaction. Operation of longer trains and less time in terminals, and operation optimization and the use of a unique dual/hybrid locomotive. Better control on the wagons, the train and its actual performance Distributed braking enabling better performance. Automated systems for creation of transport documents. Real time positioning of consignments and wagons. Modern wagon design. Communication in-train and to the outside. 13

Technologies for Sustainable and Attractive European Rail Freight foreseen areas of activity 2. RELIABILITY INCREASE & SAFETY Modern and reliable technologies and components Fail resistant design with sensors and technology providing continuous monitoring, information analysis on locomotive and wagon side. Information system to ease access to rail freight transport for shippers. Hybridization and Dual-mode; for last-mile and main line usage. Fuel savings systems and CO2 reduction equipment. Smart operation and on-line information systems Improved planning and Traffic Management. Consideration of real time data. Collection and processing of combinations of different transport chains for individual transport units. Improvement of the interoperability and safety & promotion of market opening. Creation of incentives for product innovation and service quality networks. Terminal handling and procedures. Support of (Single) Wagon Load market. 14

Technologies for Sustainable and Attractive European Rail Freight foreseen areas of activity 2. RELIABILITY INCREASE & SAFETY Early corrective actions enabled Monitoring of disturbances. Intelligent data analysis. Safety in operation Predictive diagnosis Wagon health real time monitoring and reporting to the driver. Accurate and exhaustive Mathematical modelling to investigate dynamics about long trains composition. Better management of longitudinal efforts. 15

Technologies for Sustainable and Attractive European Rail Freight foreseen areas of activity 3. LCC, ENERGY, NOISE Faster ROI of the vehicles New vehicle with high productivity and high yearly mileage. Less downtime and need for spare parts. Reduction in the needed number of vehicles for a given capacity Vehicles with increased productivity and availability will produce more with less down-time. Greater flexibility of operation and interoperability through dual/hybrid powered locomotives. Reduction in the cost of vehicle maintenance Modern and reliable system architectures and component technologies. Better and more standardised on-line monitoring of actual condition. New bogies and intelligent rolling stock. 16

Technologies for Sustainable and Attractive European Rail Freight foreseen areas of activity 3. LCC, ENERGY, NOISE Reduced damage, wear and tear of the infrastructure Track friendly vehicles with better running properties. Sensors noting abnormal circumstances. Smoother running.
