This standard was first published in 1975. It was revised in 1991, alingning with ISO 3874 : 1988. Subsequent to the revised of ISO 3874 : 1997, this standard was again revised to bring it in line with the revised ISO Standard. The third revision of this standard has been undertaken to align it with the latest version of ISO 3874 : 2017. The text of ISO Standard has been proposed to be approved as suitable for publication as an Indian Standard without deviations. Certain conventions and terminologies are, however, not identical to those used in Indian Standards.
