SECTION 08305 ACCESS DOORS PART 1 - GENERAL 1.01 RELATED DOCUMENTS A. Drawings and general provisions of Contract, including General and Supplementary Conditions and Division 1 Specification Sections, apply to this Section. 1.02 SUMMARY A. This Section includes access doors for installation in the following types of construction: 1. Gypsum drywall. 2. Masonry. B. Provide fire-rated access doors where indicated or scheduled. C. Building-in of anchors and grouting of frames set in masonry construction is specified in Division 4. D. Roof hatches are specified in Division 7. 1.03 SUBMITTALS A. Product data in form of manufacturer's technical data and installation instructions for each type of access door assembly, including setting drawings, templates, instructions, and directions for installation of anchorage, devices. 1. Include complete schedule, including types, general locations, sizes, wall and ceiling construction details, finishes, latching or locking provisions, and other data pertinent to installation. 1.04 QUALITY ASSURANCE A. Single-Source Responsibility: Obtain access doors for entire project from one source from a single manufacturer.
B. Fire-Resistance Ratings: Wherever a fire-resistance classification is indicated, provide access door assembly with panel door, frame, hinge, and latch from manufacturer listed in Underwriters Laboratories, Inc.'s "Building Materials Directory" for rating shown. 1. Provide UL label on each fire-rated access door. C. Coordination: Furnish inserts and anchoring devices that must be built into other work for installation of access doors. Coordinate delivery with other work to avoid delay. 1.05 PROJECT CONDITIONS A. Verification: Obtain specific locations and sizes for required access doors from trades requiring access to concealed equipment, and indicate on submittal schedule. PART 2 - PRODUCTS 2.01 MANUFACTURERS A. Manufacturers: Subject to compliance with requirements, provide access doors by one of the following: 1. Bar-Co., Inc. 2. J.L. Industries 3. Karp Associates, Inc. 4. Milcor, Inc. 5. Nystrom, Inc. 2.02 MATERIALS AND FABRICATION A. General: Furnish each access door assembly manufactured as an integral unit, complete with all parts, and ready for installation. B. Steel Access Doors and Frames: Fabricate units of continuous welded steel construction unless otherwise indicated. Grind welds smooth and flush with adjacent surfaces. Furnish attachment devices and fasteners of type required to secure access panels to types of support shown. 1. Frames: Fabricate from 16-gage steel.
a. Fabricate frame with exposed flange nominal 1-inch wide around perimeter of frame for units installed in the following construction: 1. Exposed masonry. 2. Ceramic tile finish. b. For gypsum drywall, furnish perforated frames with drywall bead. 2. For installation in masonry construction, furnish frames with adjustable metal masonry anchors. C. Flush Panel Doors (Typical): Fabricate from not less than 14-gage sheet steel, with concealed spring hinges or concealed continuous piano hinge set to open 175 degrees. Finish with manufacturer's factory-applied prime paint. D. Flush Panel Doors (Toilet Rooms): Fabricate from not less than 14-gage stainless steel sheet, with concealed spring hinges or concealed piano hinge set to open 175 degrees. Buff exposed surfaces to #4 satin finish. 1. For fire-rated units, provide manufacturer's standard insulated flush panel/doors, with continuous piano hinge and self-closing mechanism. E. Recessed Panel Doors: Fabricate from not less than 18-gage sheet steel with face of panel formed to provide recess below surface of applied finish. Reinforce panel as required to prevent buckling. Finish with manufacturer's factory-applied prime paint. systems. 1. Furnish recessed panels for concealed installation in drywall F. Locking Devices: Furnish flush, screwdriver-operated cam locks of number required to hold door in flush, smooth plane when closed. PART 3 - EXECUTION 1. Where shown or scheduled, provide one cylinder lock per access door. Furnish 2 keys per lock. Key all locks alike unless otherwise indicated. 2. For recessed panel doors, provide access sleeves for each locking device. Furnish plastic grommets and install in holes cut through finish.
3.01 INSTALLATION A. Comply with manufacturer's instructions for installation of access doors.
B. Coordinate installation with work of other trades. C. Set frames accurately in position and securely attach to supports with face panels plumb or level in relation to adjacent finish surfaces. 3.02 ADJUST AND CLEAN A. Adjust hardware and panels after installation for proper operation. B. Remove and replace panels or frames that are warped, bowed, or otherwise damaged. **END OF SECTION**
