PRODUCT SHEET CA SOLVE:Operations Automation CA SOLVE:Operations Automation r11.9 CA SOLVE:Operations Automation manages and automates mainframe system resources and events from a desired-state perspective. Routine resource management tasks and system startup and shutdown are automated, minimizing human error. Moreover, ongoing operational changes within your organization are efficiently absorbed into the automation knowledge base to help ensure service availability no matter how much or how often work processes change. Overview Automation products must make it easier to manage your business as it spans the globe and the clock. And you need the ability to support increasing transaction volume, while lowering your cost and the number of people managing your IT environment. CA SOLVE:Operations Automation manages and automates mainframe system resources and events, automating routine resource management tasks and system startup and shutdown, while reducing the potential for human error. Business value Automation is the key to an IT enterprise that provides the availability, performance and resources the business needs. When you ve defined what you desire in terms of event and resource management, CA SOLVE:Operations Automation helps you set up automation.

Features CA SOLVE:Operations Automation provides: Improved service levels: Includes a complete management system for starting, stopping and recovering system resources, a Desired State Architecture that continuously aligns service availability with business priorities and an Auto-Assist capability that analyzes messages and commands and builds automation procedures. The Operations Knowledge Base stores start, stop and recovery commands and responses and status messages for more than 40 types of resources. System health, alert, service and resource monitors increase problem resolution efficiency through fast detection, notification and automation of system events. Advanced automation capabilities: Standard automation can be executed by building code free processes that can be shared across similar resources. NCL and NCL and REXX language support have been provided to assist users in developing more complex, in-house specific automation routines. Audit logging is provided to help with corporate governance requirements. Comprehensive parallel sysplex management of resources: This includes managing system affinity for shared resources, automation, system resource discovery, code-free automation and automated startup and shutdown. Simplified and more efficient system operations: Centralized operational controls, syntax-independent generic commands and userdefined views lower costs and allow less skilled staff to manage a complex environment. Integrated and open architecture: Integrate with CA NSM, CA NetMaster Network Management, CA Service Desk and other products for a more holistic view of your enterprise. Processing exits are provided to customers to fulfill specialized needs in many areas. For example the 2

Alert exit allows customized Alerts to be built and propagated to systems outside CA SOLVE Operations Automation. 3

Mainframe 2.0 CA SOLVE:Operations Automation has adopted two key Mainframe 2.0 features that are designed to simplify your use of CA SOLVE:Operations Automation and enable your staff to install, configure and maintain it more effectively and quickly. Electronic Software Delivery (ESD): The Mainframe 2.0 ESD enables you to install CA SOLVE:Operations Automation using standard utilities without requiring you to reconstitute a tape cartridge. This new procedure helps speed installation and facilitates a consistent install process across mainframe products from CA Technologies, shortening the learning curve for mainframe staff. CA Mainframe Software Manager (CA MSM) for CA Recommended Service: CA Recommended Service will enable you to obtain more timely and preventative maintenance for your licensed mainframe products from CA Technologies whether you are an early or late adopter of product maintenance. What s new in CA SOLVE:Operations Automation r11.9 CA Mainframe Connector for Linux on System z: CA Mainframe Connector for Linux on System z is a new product, providing crossplatform integration of command and event flows from Linux on System z and z/vm environments. This new product will enable visibility and control from the familiar interfaces used in CA SOLVE:Operations Automation. Hardware events monitoring: CA SOLVE:Operations Automation can now listen for hardware and software events that take place on various CPCs and images throughout the HMC network. This feature provides customers with the ability to develop message rule-based automation for HMC/hardware event messages. 4

ziip exploitation: If ziip specialty engines are available, CA SOLVE:Operations Automation will exploit them, freeing up valuable general processor capacity for production work. 5

Other enhancements including: Audit reporting of EventView rule activity Export and import of knowledge base objects Partial security exit enhancements Alert forwarding changes to allow the specification of greater detail in the alert exit Jobs and started task termination now detected by end-of-memory notifications Reduced overheads when checking resource status New USS command to provide management of the HFS environment Ability to force a failed resource into an inactive state Enhanced message burst suppression for multiline WTOs Support for user-defined alert actions Data set services enhancements Review the release summary for a full list of enhancements for this release 6
