Innovation Ecosystem

What is innovation? Innovation is something we do that is new or different from past ways and which adds value for all those who may benefit from it. Creation and capture of new value in new ways (and to improve peoples life), no matter the perspective, is the main difference between innovation and invention. An innovation is an invention that found a (place in the) market.

How to sustain innovation? Culture: Encourage an innovation culture Promote commitment with the organization and deep, strategic understanding of what innovation is and how it can be achieved in everything we do. Innovation promotion Support the business units in the adoption of innovation methodologies and tools on their daily activities, while helping the technical and management teams understanding it. Fostering creativity Promote the alignment of the creative components of the processes with the overall company strategy and coordinate the creativity lifecycle, from idea generation to value creation. Monitoring and control Monitor, measure and control the innovation ecosystem and interfaces, both internal and external. External interfaces Create and manage collaboration opportunities with external institutions, namely Universities and R&D labs. RDI certification Manage the formal innovation process and associated national and international standards, while maximizing its value for the organization and customers. Knowledge management Promote the sustainable knowledge access by sharing and transferring it to the business and technical units in the organization.

Ecosystem Our innovation activities are guided and monitored by an ecosystem model that acts as an innovation orchestrator driving a chain of interactions between our core competencies and all the agents in our economic environment. Innovation lifecycle, the core of our ecosystem model, is a five stages iterative process that includes the launch of a new or improved product, service, process or business model, its introduction in the market as well as the monitoring of its evolution and the Customer feedback. Internal Innovation Events Creative and innovative culture Ideation Innovation ecosystem Internal and external analysis Knowledge Knowledge Management Innovation Methodologies and Tools Innovation lifecycle Organization Idea Benef. Innovation Diagnosis and KPIs R&D Organizational Strucutres and Capabilities Innovation lifecycle Prod. The systematic implementation and monitoring of the innovation ecosystem in our company requires permanent focus on the management of the three interfaces normalized by the Portuguese Standard NP 4457 (Research, Development and Innovation management standard). These interfaces are: Organization Addresses the aspects of the intrinsic capabilities of the organization, the promotion of the creative processes and knowledge management, both internal and external. Market Focuses on the observation and analysis of (potential) customers, new markets and trends. Intellectual property management is also addressed in this interface. Technology Observation of external developments in its areas of business, establishing and managing the necessary partnerships with other organizations in order to share technical and scientific information and evaluate joint development opportunities. It also performs permanent technology scanning and monitoring in order to identify opportunities of converting emerging technologies into updated and innovative products and services.

Organization interface InnovAction Annual publication dedicated to information and communication technologies. Issued by Altice Labs for the first time in 2003, it is one of the oldest and the most consistent expert magazine in Portugal.

MomentIno Workshops addressing innovation themes and methodologies that were previously identified as relevant to the organization, to encourage creativity and innovation. Working with Business Units Engaging with business unit s projects is a way to spread the word and inspire the use of innovative methodologies in the daily working routines. KShare Knowledge share events are opportunities to promote knowledge sharing between team members (of the same business unit), promoting the creation of a broad and unified vision of the business unit challenges. KShare events are the perfect moments for idea generation and discussion, or ideation. Pack DinamIna Toolkit that may be used by our teams in their daily working routines, accordingly to current needs. The available toolkit allows us to direct our work towards our Client s needs. Innovation Troopers The Innovation Troopers aim to engage everyone into taking an active role into the company s innovation ecosystem.

Market interface Market intelligence pack Gathering and sharing of several relevant publications related with Altice Labs strategic areas. BizzDays Workshops dedicated to specific business themes which are chosen of the foremost importance to the company. The aim of this workshops is to promote the discussion and training around business topics. Intellectual property monitoring Performs a systematic analysis of the number of IPR requests, registers, licenses and costs.

Technology interface RDI Projects International projects in collaboration and funded by external entities, projects with national partners and with Portuguese research institutes and universities. Tech Days Tech Days arise as a way to promote and share technological knowledge, not only its own but also of its partners. Technological partnerships With other companies for product, solution and market development.

RDI in collaboration We continuously engage in collaborative Research, Development and Innovation (RDI) projects as part of our sustained strategy for technological leadership. To this end, we play an active role in the Innovation Ecosystem, working in partnership with world class universities, R&D Institutions, technology startups, Suppliers and Clients in several projects, based on a risk sharing model, resorting to external funding from the major national and international research and innovation support programs.
