Dear Students and Faculty, Wishing you all a very happy Thanksgiving holiday! We have been very busy in the Career Center with internships! All of a sudden, we have many students seeking opportunities for spring, summer, and even next year. We love to see the planning start early. Here are a few items regarding internships to keep in mind: The Career Center staff cannot simply place a student into an internship. Not only is it not legal for us to do so, it defeats our commitment of making opportunities equally accessible to all students. We are happy to assist with finding internship sites, providing access to our lists of employers, providing connections to our alumni and guidance with application materials, especially that all-important resume. Many internships are not posted. This is bad news to many of us, however it does open up potential opportunities with many employers in a student s area of interest. Not sure about your area of interest? Start with information interviews before an internship. We have a script of questions to ask a potential internship employer and will help make those connections. Ideally, your internship would fit into your academic plan with the guidance of your faculty advisor; please seek their advice. Continue to check Saints4Hire for new listings; you can sort by internships under the Job Type. Faculty - we are creating a login for you to view listings on Saints4Hire. We will send that information to you early next week so you have access to the information as you are advising your students. Career Center Newsletter Happy Thanksgiving! Internships for spring and summer Interested in finding an internship for the spring semester or over the summer? We have posted many opportunities on Saints4Hire, and many of our Career Fair employers were recruiting for internships at the fairs. Check out Saints4Hire often to see the open positions, and feel free to contact Alyssa Nastasi for help contacting local employers about internship opportunities. about the opportunity to intern at the Hawks Prairie location over the summer. This is a PAID internship where you experience many areas of the organization with a rotation through the departments. Students have participated this internship in the past and felt it was a truly valuable experience! Interested in this opportunity? Send your resume to Ann Adams (aadams@stmartin.edu) by December 31. She will be forwarding on applications to the internship coordinator for interviews! If you are interested in doing this at your hometown Costco, stop by the Career Center to pick up the information on the internship. Thank you to those who attend the Career Fairs! Thank you to everyone who attended our Fall Career Fairs. We saw an increase in student participation, and our largest registration of employers. Multiple alumni were at the event recruiting for their organizations, and spoke of how important attending Career Fairs was for their professional journey. We also want to thank The Belltower for covering each fair. The articles covered the events perfectly! Keep a lookout for information on our Spring Career and Internship Fair, scheduled for April 26. Employers are already registering! Juniors and seniors, enroll in BA210 Be Career Ready for a one-credit class on transitioning from university to the workplace. The class includes guest speakers from various industries, mock interviews with real recruiters, a text including 90 tips for success in networking, using social media and avoiding mistakes in career preparation, and an office politics game. Class meets on Tuesdays at noon in the spring! Annual Career and Internship Fair April 26, 2017
