Balance
Balance Specialty plastics based on PA 610 BASF supplies polyamide 610 for processing by injection molding under the trade name Balance which is produced by polycondensation of hexamethylene diamine and sebacic acid. This means that more than 60 % of the base polymer for the product family consists of sustainable raw materials. It differs from conventional polyamide 6 (PA 6) and 66 (PA 66) in a reduced water uptake as well as improved hydrolysis and stress cracking resistance. Like A and B, S Balance is highly resistant to fuels, oils and greases, to most solvents, aqueous solutions and alkalis. Its resistance to weakly acid media makes it superior to PA 6 and PA 66. S Balance is therefore an attractive option for applications that were previously only feasible using PA 612 and PA 12. The current product range with reinforced and unreinforced grades is shown in the table. Balance in tune with components with a special performance profile S Balance is particularly suitable for This makes A Balance suitable for overmolding metal and electronic components that come into contact with aggressive media, for example wheel speed sensors housing and gear components where dimensional stability is a major consideration plug-in connectors, pipes and reservoirs in cooling circuits with high demands on hydrolysis resistance The use of PA 610 as the base polymer makes it possible to develop other materials than the S Balance series. Blended with PA 66, it leads to A3HG6 Balance which is characterized by a range of properties between those of PA 66 and S Balance. It retains its high stress cracking resistance and also has very good resistance to hot oil. oil pans and oil filter housings radiator end caps components in contact with aggressive spray water. A3HG6 Balance is therefore the material of choice for applications that do not have to meet the most demanding requirements on hot water resistance, but must be stronger, stiffer and more thermally resistant.
Strong in comparison: hydrolysis and stress cracking resistance Two properties in particular make S Balance a serious competitor for other long-chain high-performance polyamides such as PA 612 or PA 12: its hydrolysis resistance, i. e. its high resistance to hot water and steam its stress cracking resistance when exposed to aggressive Stress at break at 23 C [MPa] 200 initial value, dry 160 120 S3WG6 Balance SW564 PA 66 GF30 HR chemicals such as calcium chloride, which is used in Asia 80 and Russia as road salt, and zinc chloride which can form on vehicle bodies. 40 The material is not only more dimensionally stable than PA 66; it also has only a slighter difference between dry and conditioned mechanical properties. Compared with PA 12, it is stronger, stiffer and more thermally resistant. 0 500 1000 1500 2000 2500 3000 Fig. 3: Hydrolysis resistance of S Balance compared with PA 66, in Glysantin / water ( 1:1) at 130 C Time [h]
