Instructions for installation, operation and maintenance 0/204 General The rectangular smoke control damper ESAM is specially designed for use in multi fire-compartment applications as a closing or opening damper for smoke extraction purposes. ESAM meets the European product standard EN 20- requirements for multi-compartment applications and is CE marked. The product has been tested according to EN 3-0, fulfilling fire class EI 20S / EI 90S with pressure class 000 Pa. ESAM dampers are suitable for both automatic operation by fire-alarm-activated systems (AA) and by manual operation by fire-fighter-activated systems (MA, installed in the duct). The duct outlet must be placed so that the smoke control damper is protected from water and moisture coming from outside as well as ice and snow that could hinder the opening of the damper. The ductwork section between the smoke control damper and the duct outlet must be designed and insulated so that the heat insulation and tightness requirements are met. The ductwork design should also take into account possible condensation and mitigate against it. The smoke control damper can be installed with the actuator box on the side, top or bottom. Fig.. Wiring diagrams for damper actuators: see Figures and 2. The entire cable system with connection boxes has to be fire resistant as designed. The connection of the damper actuator to a fire-resistant cable must be made inside the calcium-silicate actuator box so that the actuator cables are shielded by the box. Installation Careful installation is required to ensure the proper functioning of the ESAM smoke control damper. Please especially note the following points: Cross-measures have to be the same from both corners. The damper must be fixed in place and supported taking into account the weight of the product and the fire-resistance requirements. See installation examples on next page. The electrical connection must be made inside the calcium-silicate box. A hole must be drilled in the actuator box on site for the power cable. When the cable has been installed, the cable entry must be sealed with an appropriate fire-rated sealant. In the case of smoke control dampers over 3 mm in height, the damper blade will project outside the damper casing in the open position, i.e. the 'open' depth is greater than the 'closed' depth. This must be taken into account when installing the product, ensuring that the blade can move freely into the 'open' position. The required direction of gas flow is indicated on the outside of the smoke control damper. The damper must be installed so that gases flow through it in the direction indicated. Heater Fig. 2. Inspection and maintenance The function of smoke control dampers must always be checked before and after installation. According to product standard EN 20-, smoke control dampers should be checked periodically at least every six months to ensure the grade is maintained as designed (see the example check list). Special attention should be paid to the tightness of seams and joints to ensure they do not let the heat out. Any defects must be repaired. Damper reference Date of inspection Check actuator and end-switch wiring for damage. Check damper cleanliness and clean where necessary. Check the condition of the blade and seals; rectify and report where necessary. Confirm operation of the damper to OPEN (within 0 s) and CLOSE (within 0 s) by use of the control system and physical observation of the damper; rectify and report where necessary. Confirm operation of OPEN and CLOSED end-switches; rectify and report where necessary. Confirm that the damper fulfils its function as part of the smoke control system. Confirm that the damper is left in its standby position. NOTE! A smoke control damper is part of a smoke control system. As this is the case, the whole system should be checked as governed by the operation and maintenance requirements for the system. The smoke control damper is made of impact-sensitive material. Visually check the material for cracks. If any are found, please contact your nearest Fläkt Woods representative. Fläkt Woods 900 GB 204.0 Specifications are subject to alteration without notice.
