Regional training wrkshop on MESA ECOWAS Land Thema products... Fist day The formal opening ceremony took place on Monday, January 11 th 2016 and was chaired by Prof. BOUAFOU Kouamé Guy Marcel, Director General of AGRHYMET Regional Centre in presence of Mr. Issa Garba, acting coordinator for the MESA ECOWAS Land Thema project, Dr. Bakary Djaby, Technical Assistant for the MESA project, Dr. Seydou Traoré, responsible for the MESA training and Mr. Boubacar Sidikou, Niger MESA focal person.participants to this workshop were the national thematic focal points for Crop, Pastoralism and Bush fire services from the ECOWAS member countries (Benin, Burkina Faso, Côte d Ivoire, Guinea,Guinea Bissau, Mali, Niger, Senegal, Togo.), Mauritania and Chad. Day 2: Pastoralism group Thematic working groups were organized with respect to the three major services of the MESA ECOWAS Land Thema project : Crop group Main facilitator : Mr. Issa Garba. Main facilitator : Dr. S. Traoré This group worked on various products of the crop service that are : - Satellite rainfall estimate and derived products for the monitoring of the cropping season - Satellite vegetation monitoring Prof Banoin, facilitator Dr Illa, facilitator This group worked on products of the pastoralism service that are : - Introduction to pastoralism - Vegetation monitoring - Proposal of a MESA bulletin canvas to decision-makers

Atelier Régional de formation sur les produits MESA terrestre CEDEAO Niamey, Niger du 11 au 14 janvier 2016 Day 5: MESA Policy Dialogue day About forty-five (45) decision-makers composed of General Directors, responsible of research institutions, head of Central agriculture services, Livestock, Environment etc, francophone and Portuguese speaking countries from the Sahel and West Africa took part to the policy dialogue day that was held on January 15, 2016 at AGRHYMET Regional Centre, The formal opening ceremony of this event was chaired by his Excellency Mr. Mahaman EL Hadj Ousmane, Niger Minister of livestock in presence of Dr. Djimé Adoum, CILSS Executive Secretary, Dr Samuel MEDU, representative of the ECOWAS commission, the technical advisor of the Minister of state Minister of Agriculture and Mrs. Beatrice Bussi, representative of the European Union delegation in Niger Prof. BOUAFOU Kouamé Guy Marcel, Director General of AGRHYMET Regional Centre (ARC), Mrs. Rabi Oumarou and Mr. Seydou Diakité, respectively Permanent Secretary of CILSS in Niger and Mali, the MESA Land Thema focal points, experts from CILSS and many guesses were as well present.three addresses were delivered during the opening ceremony : * The welcoming address by the ARC Director General *The address by the representative of the ECOWAS commission *The opening address by the minister of Livestock The Minister of Livestock The ECOWAS representative The ARC Director General High table : From right to left : Mrs Bussi (EU), Mr.Medu (ECOWAS), The Minister of Livestock, the CILSS Executive Secretary, the technical advisor of the Niger Minister of State Minister of Agriculture View of the room
