ROLE SUMMARY AND BACKGROUND We are looking for a creative individual to be responsible for developing and managing the student voice function and representation systems of De Montfort University Students Union. You will be responsible for developing and maintaining the strategic direction of the department in line with the Union s vision and ensuring the effective delivery of all our democratic functions. The ideal candidate will have a proven track record or working within a representative and democratic environment and a strong portfolio of participation and engagement in the HE / Charitable sector. Knowledge of issues affecting students is essential as is experience in developing and maintaining complex stakeholder relationships. Knowledge of design, delivery and evaluation of training would be advantageous. This role is integral to our Membership Services and is an exciting opportunity for an individual who would like to join a dynamic and aspirational organisation. JOB SPECIFICATION Job title: Department: Salary : Hours of Work: Responsible to: Supervision: Purpose of Post: Student Voice Manager Membership Services (Student Voice) 25,513 to 31,342 per annum 37 hours per week Membership Services Manager Student Engagement Coordinator Frontrunners / Graduate Champions To be responsible for developing and managing the student voice function and representation systems of De Montfort University Students Union, ensuring they operate as effectively and efficiently as possible. To develop and maintain the strategic direction of the department in line with the Union s vision. MAIN DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES Implement and monitor the Student Voice strategic plan, in line with Union strategy. Manage and develop the staff within the Student Voice department ensuring effective recruitment, induction and on-going development within the organisation. Undertake research and other Union visits to consider additional projects to develop of the Student Voice department. Act as budget holder for the Student Voice cost centres. Oversee the development of the representation system, including Course Reps, School Reps and Part Time Liberation Officers. Ensure the effective implementation of democratic functions, which may include Elections, the Education and Activities Councils and the Annual General Meeting; such as supporting Officers and attendees with the formulation and submission of policies as and when required. Prepare, disseminate and analyse the results of all DSU student surveys, including the Question of the Month initiative, working alongside the Executive Officers to set questions and collate feedback. Work alongside the Membership Services Manager to develop Union elections, finding innovative ways of improving voter engagement and candidate interest. Act as an election official, coordinating online elections and provide support for Sports teams / Societies / Demon Media and peer elections where necessary.
Provide advice and guidance to the Executive Officers on areas relevant to their roles,, be responsible for organising the Executive handover organising Officer training and implementing a support and mentoring programme for elected Officers. Be in contact with NUS and other Students Unions for the purposes of networking, research and sharing best practice. Alongside the Student Engagement Coordinator work with the elected Representatives to support less engaged groups as defined by the institution s NSS results. Provide continued support for Frontrunners appointed within the Student Voice department. Be responsible for the development of student representation within Collaborative Partner Colleges. Support the Membership Services Manager in matters relating to governance and the governing documents. Maintain Union policies (online and hard copies). Be responsible for the co-ordination of the life time membership scheme. Develop the StandOut programme, including the provision of language sessions. Organise a number of social activities throughout the year. Work with the Academic Professional Development Unit to increase turnout in the Vice Chancellor s Distinguished Teaching Awards. Develop the Vice Chancellor s Distinguished Student Awards, raising awareness amongst students and academics of the programme. Deliver the annual Students Union Leadership for Trustees course. Support the delivery of the Career Management Programme, led by ProVenture. Work alongside other departments within Membership Services for collaborative events. Be included on the DSU locking up rota. Any other associated or similar duties that may be necessary from time to time as determined by the Membership Services Manager.
