It is the Northern Territory s largest annual arts and cultural event comprising of local, national and international works. ROLE DESCRIPTION The Technical Manager will assist in the coordination and successful delivery of technical production to support the safe and professional site delivery of Darwin Festival events under the direction of the Production Manager. The Technical Manager actions the Production department s budgets and plans, and sources and oversees the deployment of equipment and crew required to meet the delivery of the annual program under the supervision of the Production Manager. The Technical Manager assists the Production Manager with the coordination of logistics, technical specifications and site plans for purpose-built and existing venues. The Technical Manager assists the Production Manager and Logistics Coordinator with the registering, maintenance and upkeep of production assets, materials and equipment, including The Lighthouse venue. With the Production Manager, the Technical Manager co-delegates to a team of Production Coordinators who oversee the site delivery of events, as well as other production professionals specialising in lighting, audio, staging, stage management, construction and front-of-house services. The Technical Manager assists in the implementation of the Darwin Festival Event Risk Management Strategy and the Darwin Festival Event Safety Management Strategy, and will undertake the duties of Deputy Warden during event delivery. The Technical Manager reports to the Production Manager and holds key relationships with internal stakeholders including the Production department staff and Festival staff. This position is ultimately responsible to the CEO.
KEY RESPONSIBILITIES 1. Technical Management Support the Production Manager in the technical planning of program delivery, providing detailed advice on event and venue logistics, site plans and quotes as requested, offering solutions and exploring options to achieve the ambitions of the artistic program Obtain and coordinate show technical specifications and plan accordingly, ensuring the technical specifications, freight, logistics and staffing are accurate in artist contracts In consultation with the Production Manager, plan, budget, schedule, delegate and manage the logistics, technical production, suppliers and crew at sites and venues during event installation and delivery Under the direction of the Production Manager, prepare and assist in the management of production schedules for all venues and sites Ensure the Festival s production activities are conducted within the approved guidelines of relevant public safety acts and regulations relating to live public performance and in accordance with approved WHS standards 2. Safety & Risk Management Implement and monitor the following strategies and registers under direction by the Production Manager: - Darwin Festival Event Risk Management Strategy - Darwin Festival Event Safety Management Strategy - Darwin Festival Event Waste Management Strategy - Darwin Festival WHS Policy & Procedures - Darwin Festival Event Traffic & Pedestrian Management - Darwin Festival Incident Register - Participate in Emergency & Safety training prior to event install and delivery Undertake the responsibilities of Deputy Warden during event delivery 3. Financial Management Obtain quotes and engage suppliers in accordance with the Darwin Festival Procurement Policy & Procedures Assist in maintaining the department budget, raise POs, issue POs to suppliers and process invoices in accordance with the Darwin Festival Finance Management Policy & Procedures Input the Production department show costs into the show budgets Assist the Production Manager to provide a breakdown of the cost of hire equipment for insurance purposes upon request With the Production Manager and Logistics Coordinator, assist in the upkeep of the Production Equipment Asset Register of stored goods Assist the Production Administrator to coordinate the training of short-term staff in finance policy and procedures and Datafest processes prior to event install
4. Staff Management Schedule, supervise and delegate to short-term production staff and ensure they have read the Darwin Festival Employment Policy Handbook policy and procedures Coordinate relevant Production staff emergency and safety training prior to event install and delivery Report HR or site workplace issues directly to the Production Manager, Finance & HR Manager and CEO. 5. Accountability & Reporting Participate in regular Production department meetings Provide the Production Manager with a weekly report of developments and activities either in writing or in a meeting Participate in regular Programming and Production department meetings Ensure lines of written reporting and accountability within the Production department Participate in a departmental debrief immediately following event delivery and provide a written debrief report to the Production Manager 6. General Duties Attend Festival events and functions as required Any other duties as requested by the Production Manager or the CEO KEY RELATIONSHIPS Internal Relationships The Technical Manager reports to the Production Manager. The Technical Manager holds key relationships with internal stakeholders and collaborates with the CEO, Artistic Director, Program Manager, Producers, Finance & HR Manager, Marketing & Communications Manager, Development Manager, Ticketing Manager, Bars Manager and Festival Administrator on day-to-day matters. The Technical Manager assists in overseeing the Production Department short-term staff. The Technical Manager assists in the supervision of the Production Coordinators, site and venue managers, and other qualified professional lighting, audio, staging, stage management and front of house staff. This position is ultimately responsible to the CEO. External Relationships The Technical Manager maintains positive and dynamic working relationships with key external stakeholders including, but not limited to, artists, venues and suppliers.

Deal with internal and external stakeholders professionally at all times to uphold, enhance and further the professional profile of Darwin Festival Demonstrate excellent verbal and written communication skills, and display leadership as a team player with a positive, collaborative and inclusive attitude Deliver an end-of-contract written debrief report QUALIFICATIONS, EXPERIENCE AND SKILLS Qualifications Relevant tertiary qualifications and/or a strong background in technical production preferably in a major event and/or festival environment A current driver s license valid in the Northern Territory (preferable manual experience, but not essential) Current first aid certification highly desirable Experience At least four years relevant experience in major event and/or festival production services Ability to conceptualise and manage the complexity of production delivery in a multi-venue, multi-day festival environment Excellent knowledge of the technical and operational requirements of an extremely diverse range of art form performances High level of proficiency in budget management Extensive experience in problem solving with the ability to comprehend issues and embrace flexibility, conceptualising outcomes and facilitating conflict resolution High level experience in risk management strategies and policies and WHS policy Experience in staff management, delegation and reporting Skills Excellent interpersonal and communication skills and the ability to build a rapport with a range of stakeholders to encourage cooperation and collaboration Excellent organisational skills and project management skills with an ability to work in a systematic way to prioritise workload and provide direction to others Strong initiative, attention to detail and the ability to troubleshoot under pressure Excellent computer skills, particularly Excel, and proficiency in Datafest A team player with a positive, collaborative, respectful and inclusive attitude
