Project Description & Purpose Replace the structurallydeficient John Greenleaf Whittier Bridge carrying I- 95 over the Merrimack River Improve I-95 from Exit 57 (Rte. 113) to Exit 60 by widening the roadway, improving ramp geometry, upgrading drainage & lighting systems
Project Goals Improve safety Provide bridge that meets all current standards Improve traffic flow Improve air quality by reducing congestion Support non-motorized modes of transportation

Traffic Maintenance Requirements I-95 NB & SB 3 lanes to be provided during peak travel times For I-95 NB: a. Single lane closure, Monday-Thursday 7:00 PM 5:00 PM b. Two lane closure, Monday-Thursday 10:00 PM 7:00 AM For I-95 SB: a. Single lane closure, Monday-Thursday 9:00 AM 6:00 AM b. Two lane closure, Monday-Thursday 9:00 PM 6:00 AM No lane closures during holiday weekends and summer weekends
Route 110 Single lane closure allowed: WHITTIER BRIDGE / I-95 IMPROVEMENT PROJECT Traffic Maintenance Requirements, cont d Monday-Friday 9:00 AM 3:00 PM Monday-Thursday 8:00 PM 6:00 AM All weekend (Saturday & Sunday) & holiday closures require MassDOT approval Evans Place Alternating traffic (with flaggers) allowed: Monday-Friday 9:00 AM 3:00 PM Route 110/I-95 NB On-Ramp Shall remain open between Memorial Day & Labor Day Pine Hill Road Alternating traffic in single lane, using temporary traffic signals, until new bridge constructed (There will be exceptions to the above, which will require MassDOT approval & public notifications will be issued prior to any changes)
