RSARCH OFFICR Global Commission on the conomy and Climate LS Cities is seeking a Research Officer to undertake research on cities, urban infrastructure and finance for the Global Commission on the conomy and Climate, co-chaired by Lord Stern and President Felipe Calderon. The Global Commission is a major new international initiative to analyse and communicate the economic risks and opportunities which arise from climate change. Candidates should have a background in one of the following fields: macroeconomics, environmental/regional economics, finance, engineering. A Ph is not required if the candidate has other research experience that demonstrates the capability to produce independent original research. They should have the ability to analyse and research complex ideas, concepts and theories and apply appropriate methodologies, and have experience of complex data collection. Candidates must also have any necessary visa or work permit required to work in the UK already in place for the duration of the appointment. Please see the full Job escription and Person Specification below. Hours The post is offered on an hourly paid basis, up to 29.5 hours a week with flexible working hours. The postholders will be based within the LS Cities centre, on the LS campus in central London. Salary An hourly rate in the range of 21.09-27.45 (including holiday pay) is offered for the post, dependent on experience. Contract duration This post is funded for a fixed-term, until 30 th September 2014. However, there may be opportunities for extending the position depending on future funding. Job title: Research Officer, Global Commission on the conomy and Climate epartment/ivision: LS Cities Accountable to: r Graham Floater LS Cities is seeking a Research Officer to undertake research on cities, urban infrastructure and finance for the Global Commission on the conomy and Climate, co-chaired by Lord Stern and President Felipe Calderon. The Global Commission is a major new international initiative to analyse and communicate the economic risks and opportunities which arise from climate change. The Commission is a partnership of seven economic and policy research institutes located in the US, China, urope, India, Korea and thiopia overseen by an International Council comprising former heads of government and finance ministers and leaders in the fields of economics, business and finance. The conomic Advisory Panel is chaired by Lord Stern and includes Nobel Laureates and other leading economists. Heads of State and Ministers from seven countries launched the Global Commission in New York in September 2013, ahead of the opening of the United Nations General Assembly. LS Cities, an international centre supported by eutsche Bank, carries out research, education, outreach and advisory activities in the urban field. The centre builds on the interdisciplinary work of the Urban Age, studying how the design of the built environment has profound consequences on the shape of society in an increasingly urbanised world. r Floater is GC irector and Principal Research Fellow at LS. Formerly, he was senior advisor to the UK Prime Minister and a deputy director at HM Treasury. Job Summary: The successful candidate will join the team at LS Cities leading the cities, urban infrastructure and finance research for the Global Commission s flagship project, the New Climate conomy. The New Climate conomy project aims to produce more comprehensive evidence on whether and how climate policy can be made compatible with strong economic performance. The project will report in September 2014. It aims to make recommendations to the world s governments, business and finance leaders, and to the wider global public, on the actions and policies which can simultaneously deliver better economic growth and address climate risks. Its purpose is to contribute to global debate about economic and climate policy, and to inform the goals of governments and the investment decisions of the business and finance sectors. The successful candidate will have direct responsibility for data gathering, analysis and report writing under the guidance of the project director, r Graham Floater. The post will also involve considerable networking with experts worldwide to draw on the most comprehensive evidence available. This is a time limited post. However, there may be opportunities for extending the position depending on future funding.

Undertake comparative desktop analysis across cities in different regions of the world. Write and prepare project reports, including in the areas of urban development and global economic growth, urban infrastructure, technological innovation, finance, governance and urban transport solutions. Contribute to the preparation of other research publications. Contribute to grant applications. Initiate and develop research relationships with relevant expert individuals and organisations on behalf of LS Cities. Management and Coordination Coordinate a research project team of international experts working on the New Climate conomy project. Oversee the management and logistics of research outputs. Manage project budget and resources. Organize workshops, and attend sessions, as and when required. Coordinate and participate in regular project meetings. Liaison and Networking Liaise with external researchers, government officials and private sector representatives. Undertake other tasks at the request of the Project irector. Flexibility To deliver services effectively, a degree of flexibility is needed, and the post holder may be required to perform work not specifically referred to above.
