MAIN AIR COMPRESSOR FOR SEWERAGE SYSTEM Main Air Compressor in Botadaung Township, Sewage are driven by air compressing to Treatment Plant Year of Establishment 1888 year (6) Steam Turbine Engines of 160 Horse power Change of year to electrical driven ( 1962 1963) (2) Electrical Air Compressors of 200 Horse power were reinstalled (2) Electrical Air Compressors of 120 Horse power were reinstalled Total land areas 2.75 acres SUB-MAIN AIR COMPRESSOR FOR SEWERAGE SYSTEM Air Compressor Station constructed in 1963 10 th Street Air Compressor in Lanmadaw Township, Sewage are driven by air compressing to Treatment Plant Year of Establishment - (1962-1963) year (2) Electrical Air Compressors of 200 Horse power have been installed Total land areas - 0.3 acres 5
OVERVIEW OF SEWERAGE SYSTEM IN DOWNTOWN AREA OF YANGON CITY Sanitation and sewerage for the Yangon City area is main responsibility of Engineering Department ( Water and Sanitation) under Yangon City Development Committee. Existing system, conventional sewerage, consists of :- Gravity sewers 39 pneumatic ejector stations Air distribution main Two sewage force mains and outlet At present Existing Sewerage System covers only 4.33 km 2 area of CBD and serves around 350,000 peoples, 7% of the city population. Daily Volume of sewage disposal - 111840 gal.(508 m³) Major Issues in Existing Sewerage System:- To establish proper treatment process for the existing sewerage system. To expand and set up the existing sewerage system. To improve urban sanitation environment in Yangon City Area 11 LOCATION OF EXISTING SEWAGE TREATMENT PLANT Yangon City Development Committee started to construct wastewater treatment in June 2003 by own human resources with the guidance of State Government to protect the environment. 12 6
