Summary of the broad purpose of the position in relation to organisation goals (Its expected outcome and how it is achieved) The Technical Officer contributes to the efficient operation of the laboratory by performing routine diagnostic tests, including preparation, screening, and reporting of specimens; assists with more complex tests and procedures for diagnosis. May work in more than one area as directed by the Laboratory Manager within a multi-disciplinary environment. 2. Reporting/Working Relationship (To whom the person reports, staff for whom the person is responsible for and other significant connections and working relationships within the organisation) The Technical Officer reports to either the Supervising Technical Officer or Medical Scientist at the direction of the Laboratory Manager. 3. Special Conditions (such as non-metropolitan location, travel requirements, frequent overtime etc) - Will be rostered over 24 hours / 7 days per week including public holidays and may be required to participate in an on-call roster. - Some interstate and intrastate travel may be required - Required to handle and process potentially infectious samples. - May be required to rotate through a range of laboratory sub-specialty work sites. Depending on work requirements the appointee may be transferred to other locations within SA Pathology to perform work of a similar nature appropriate to the classification either on a permanent or temporary basis. Statement of Key Outcomes and Associated Activities (Group into major areas of responsibility/activity and list in descending order of importance) Contribute to the provision of an efficient quality service by: 1. Receiving, processing and preparing specimens for analysis. 2. Performing routine tests in accordance with standard procedures as detailed in method manuals pertaining to appointed laboratory. 3. Assisting with the operation, maintenance and calibration of laboratory equipment. 4. Satisfy laboratory quality control requirements by assisting with the implementation and monitoring of quality control programs. 5. Relaying basic test results information to clients. 6.
