Wellbeing Programmes Leader Reports to: Based in: Salary: Head of Business Development and Community Engagement Devizes 28,093 p.a. pro-rata for 22.5 hours per week JOB PURPOSE: As a member of the Business Development and Community Engagement Team the post-holder will lead the delivery of the Trust s adult Wellbeing Programmes. The post holder will contribute directly to the delivery of Strategic Plan Objective 2 Lead and support the transition of society towards more sustainable living. The post-holder will represent the Trust externally in the course of their work. DIMENSIONS The role has responsibility for a small team and will need to inspire and motivate Wellbeing Programme staff, community groups and volunteers. The role has responsibility for the delivery of the Trust s Wellbeing programmes outcomes and supporting the sustainability of the Trust s work in this area. PRINCIPLE ACCOUNTABILITIES Existing Programme To lead practical programme of healthy outdoor activities, as part of the existing Wellbeing Programme. To work with existing Wellbeing Programme staff to organise and manage all aspects of the outdoor events programme, including referrals, facilitating access and exit pathways and Service User participation, identifying barriers creating opportunities to overcome them. To achieve good, measurable and validated outcomes for service users including undertaking individual and programme evaluation and work with external partners undertaking research and evaluation. To liaise and build relationships with key health, education and social care partners, including statutory bodies, working to embed connection with the natural environment as a therapeutic prevention and intervention prescription service. To engage actively and sensitively with Service Users and establish meaningful and supportive working relationships. The post holder is responsible for supervising the day to day scheduling and organisation of practical work days, including both practical arrangements, management of volunteers and due consideration of health and safety issues. To take personal responsibility for ensuring an equalities approach to all relationships with Service Users, partners and other staff and services are delivered to a professional standard. To work with the Conservation Team, Wiltshire Conservation Volunteers, Volunteer Site Wardens, Wiltshire Council Countryside Team, and project partners / volunteer conservation groups to integrate Wellbeing Programmes work with the Trust s land management operations.
Team Management To provide line management for Wellbeing staff in line with the Trust s Human Resources policies and procedures, including regular one to one s and annual appraisals, absence monitoring, work programming and day to day support and direction. Manage the programmes to timescale and within budget. Manage the team work programmes and report on performance as required. Manage team related issues, escalating to the Head of Business Development and Community Engagement as required. Oversee training and development for Wellbeing staff Development To work with the Head of Business and Community Engagement to develop the existing and new long-term sustainable Wellbeing Programmes. This may include new initiatives such as a care farm and wellbeing centres. To work with other staff across the Trust in the development and implementation of these programmes and lead on development and implementation as required, identifying opportunities to integrate Wellbeing programmes with other projects. Support the increase of the Trust s income through identifying relevant funding opportunities and service income. Other The post holder will take responsibility for their ongoing professional and personal development through the appraisal process in dialogue with their line manager. Whilst there will be access to a Trust minibus for the transport of service users, access to a personal vehicle insured for business use and a full clean driving licence is required as the job will involve other travel across Wiltshire. BACKGROUND The existing Wellbeing Programme is an innovative project as is the result of a collaboration between Wiltshire Council Public Health and other funders and Wiltshire Wildlife Trust, using outdoor exercise and involvement in practical nature conservation work to improve the mental and physical health and social inclusion of individuals experiencing difficulties with their mental health. WORKING RELATIONSHIPS The post is based in Devizes and is part of the Business Development and Community Engagement team. The postholder will work closely with the Head of Business Development and Community Engagement and other colleagues in the team and may work with other Wildlife Trust staff on community development and engagement projects, as well as staff involved in land management. SCOPE FOR IMPACT As part of the Wiltshire Wellbeing Team the post holder will provide an important role in the delivery of good health and mental health outcomes for the individuals involved. They will also help to influence the evolution of wider community health and mental health policy by demonstrating the value and effectiveness of the outdoor activity centred approach to community health. As part of the Trust s Strategic Plan 2015 2020, there is scope to develop this area of our work to encompass a broader service user base and range of activities involving the natural environment, capitalising on use of the Trust s natural assets and making a positive impact on the health and wellbeing of the people of Wiltshire. SKILLS, EXPERIENCE AND KNOWLEDGE Education/training/ qualifications Knowledge and experience Essential Educated to degree level or equivalent in relevant subject Ability to manage and motivate a team Understanding of community health and mental health issues Experience of working in a multiagency / partnership environment Understanding and ability to convey the benefits of the natural environment to mental health and wellbeing. Experience of working with people with mental health difficulties. Experience of social inclusion/ exclusion issues. Experience of programme management and development of services Knowledge of relevant legislation and local/national policies. Experience of leading outdoor activities. Desirable An understanding of working in the voluntary and/or environmental sector. Experience of volunteer liaison and co-ordination. Genuine interest in the natural environment.
