Social Enterprise in Education Manager Part time 6 month contract 4 days a week 32,000 pro rata Based Edinburgh City Centre with travel throughout Scotland The Social Enterprise Academy helps thousands of people to develop themselves and their organisations so that they can change the world for the better. Our Social Enterprise in Education programmes are grouped together under the banner of Social Enterprise Futures which is our approach to enabling the next generation of young people leading on social change. Through dynamic learning and development programmes facilitated by our network of skilled tutors, we help entrepreneurship and leadership to flourish in organisations, networks, schools and colleges. Our work with young people has grown substantially since 2008. We have worked with over 900 schools and colleges and exposed over 45,000 young people to social enterprise as a new way of doing business. Our ambition is that Scotland s future workforce has every opportunity to experience social enterprise, developing both their entrepreneurial thinking and their understanding of social challenges in communities near and far. We are working on long-term ambitious plans to grow and develop our work with young people in a sustainable way. We will be partnering with the public, third and private sectors to scale up and expand our programmes through innovative partnerships. These partnerships will be developed during the early part of 2017 and we are excited to see where they take us. It is anticipated that we will recruit a Business Development Manager towards the middle of next year to lead on these partnerships and continue to develop a financially sustainable approach to our Futures programme. In the meantime, we have a fantastic team delivering great work and we are looking for an interim manager to provide the leadership for this busy Future s programme delivery team. Your role will be to ensure our key strategic relationships are maintained and developed and our programme deliverables and impact are met. Working with our Centre of Innovation and Learning, your team will lead the way in demonstrating how enterprise and leadership programmes for young people can enhance aspirations, confidence and skills for Scotland s future workforce. As a member of the management team you will also contribute to strategic and operational decisions and support the overall sustainability of the organisation. You will also be joining the Academy at an exceptionally exciting time as we develop as a social franchise and expand delivery of our programmes internationally. Job Purpose To lead the Futures Team, providing strategic direction and management for the team Job Description Strategic Development Build on the reputation and raise the profile of the Social Enterprise Academy as a key partner supporting the implementation of the Scottish Government s vision for young people in Scotland Manage already well-established relationships with Scottish Government, Highlands and Island Enterprise and the Robertson Trust, ensuring the quality of all aspects of the relationship (relationships, reporting and Ministerial involvement) are maintained and developed Continue to maintain strong partnerships with existing key stakeholders in the Public and Third Sector including Schools, Local Authorities and Further and Higher Education to secure our support for young people Business Development, Sales and Marketing Promote the Social Enterprise Academy Futures programme at events and through other media, working with other team members to engage target audiences Work with a diverse team of Future s Associate Tutors to continue developing the Futures Programme in line with the needs of young people and in response to demand Hub Management Set, monitor and report on Future Hub targets and achievements to ensure the Hub and Academy s KPIs are successfully met Provide line management for the Futures Hub team Provide high quality reports and information to the Social Enterprise Academy Board and stakeholders (SG, HIE, Robertson Trust) in line with their requirements Take responsibility for the preparation, monitoring and reporting of the Futures Hub budget to ensure sustainability Monitor the evaluation of Future s programmes to ensure they are having the desired impact on young people and are delivered to a consistent high standard and exceed learner expectations Collaborate, as an integral member of the team and international hub network, to the development and success of the Social Enterprise Academy

Essential A passion and interest in developing young people to become more enterprising, confident and ambitious for themselves An understanding and experience of great partnership working and a strong desire to work collaboratively Evidence of an inclusive approach to working that brings people together to achieve a common objective A motivational and coaching approach to leading people Experience and evidence of building and maintaining effective relationships Sound management skills including the ability to motivate colleagues, organise activity effectively, and maintain good working relationships with partners in multiple remote locations. An understanding of the challenges facing local authorities, head teachers, teachers, or support workers in helping young people develop skills for learning, life and work. Some knowledge of the Scottish Curriculum and the capacities of Curriculum for Excellence. An understanding of the challenges facing young people in establishing and maintaining a positive destination beyond school. An understanding of peer-led learning and a belief in the ability and wisdom of young people to lead themselves A successful track record in working with funders and stakeholders Experience of budgeting and financial planning Excellent communication (both written and oral) and interpersonal skills are essential in relation to both colleagues and clients/customers Confidence in presenting effectively using a range of presentation skills, and credibility in representing the Academy to clients and audiences at all levels is vital Understanding of and commitment to, the values of equal opportunity, diversity and social enterprise Ability to travel to support teachers and young people across Scotland A full UK driving license and ability to travel
Desirable An understanding of learning and development, facilitation, training, community education or CPD programmes. An understanding of the social enterprise and third sector policy landscape Good IT skills with an ability to make use of management information Management and Supervision You will report to the Chief Executive Officer You will manage the Scotland team based in our Edinburgh city centre office and Inverness office and collaborate with the full Social Enterprise Academy team internationally.
