Summary A Look See Evaluation of WakeUP 2 for Cover Crops following Fallow Objective: The project attempted to see if WakeUP 2 and a combination of WakeUP 2 +SEA-90 micronutrient fertilizer applied as foliars to young cover crops of consisting of a mixture of Tillage Radish and oats would increase rooting and/or vegetative growth. Methods: A fall cover crop of Tillage Radish and oats were drilled into a soil that had been fallowed during the summer of 2012. The field had previously been in turf for several years. The turf was subsoiled to a depth of 18 in the spring of 2012, then moldboard plowed and disced twice. It was allowed to fallow during the dry, hot summer of 2012. Weeds were mowed once. The area was disced again immediately before drilling the cover crop on September 21. Drill spacing was 7.5 inches between rows. Tillage Radishes were drilled at 4 Lb/ac and oats at 60 Lb/ac with a John Deere 1520 series drill. WakeUP 2 was sprayed on October 1 at 1:256 on three, 17.5-foot long rows. Three rows were left in between each of the treated rows with the middle row of those three being the control where no spray was applied. WakeUP 2 at 1:256 and SEA-90 at 1.0 Lb/ac were mixed together and sprayed on 3 other rows in similar fashion. plots were sprayed with a hand sprayer. The WakeUP 2 was sprayed again on October 17 at 1:256 on three, 17.5-foot long rows. Three rows were left in between the treated rows with the middle row of those three being the control where no spray was applied. WakeUP 2 at 1:256 and SEA-90 at 1.0 Lb/ac were mixed together and sprayed on 3 other rows in similar fashion on October 17. The plots were sprayed with a hand sprayer at 8:00 a.m. Air Temperature was 57 degrees F with a light wind. A heavy frost hit on October 8 th and 9 th but did not seem to hurt the cover crops too much as they continued to grow into November. On November 16 a potato fork was used to dig one full row of each of the control and treatments in both the WakeUP 2 and WakeUP 2 +SEA-90 plots. Roots were washed and plants counted and weighed and measured as fresh weight. Plants were allowed to air dry for 15 days and roots were clipped off the tillage radishes and weighed separately from the tops. Oats plants were left intact and dried roots and leaves weighed together. Soil had moisture in it because of the 5.76 inches of rainfall from Hurricane Isaac that occurred the first week of September. A nice rain of 0.6 inches fell five days after planting. Eight days later a cold 0.7 inches fell on October 5. Another 0.8 inches came the evening of October 17 after we had applied the second foliar early on the morning of the 17 th. Another 0.4 inches fell on October 26. All totaled, the cover crop had 2.5 inches of evenly spaced rains over the 2-month evaluation period.

Even though the average weight per radish was the highest of the four plots, total biomass dry weight was lower in the WakeUP 2 plot due to a lesser number (205) of plants. The other three plots had 59 up to 136 more plants per 17.5 ft than the WakeUP 2 plot and it showed in their higher total biomass dry weights. 30 25 Average Biomass Weight per Tillage Radish (leaves and roots) Fresh Weght/plant Dry Wt/plant 25.986 22.677 grams per plant 20 15 17.059 17.73 10 5 2.415 2.757 1.647 2.113 0 Control WakeUP2 Control WakeUP2 +SEA-90 ResearchConducted by Arise Research & Discovery Inc for Renewable Farming LLC 9 8 7 Average Biomass Weight per Oat Plant (leaves and roots) Fresh Weght/plant Dry Wt/plant 7.709 6.956 grams per plant 6 5 4.41 5.236 4 3 2 1 1.171 0.815 0.934 0.968 0 Control WakeUP2 Control WakeUP2 +SEA-90 ResearchConducted by Arise Research & Discovery Inc for Renewable Farming LLC

Summary Foliar applications of WakeUP 2 and WakeUP 2 +SEA-90 were applied to a young cover crop of mixed oats and Tillage Radishes on October 1 before frost and on October 17 after frost. The cover crop was planted September 21 and plants were evaluated on November 16. The middle row of the three treated rows from each treatment was dug up and evaluated. The cover crop experienced excellent growing weather and timely rainfall this fall near Martinsville, IL. The WakeUP 2 foliar spray increased the dry weight of the Tillage Radishes by 14.2% per radish. Dry weight per radish increased 28.3% compared to the control when WakeUP 2 was combined with 1.0 Lb SEA-90 per acre. Even though there were 16% less Tillage Radish plants in the WakeUP 2 +SEA-90 strip than in the control they still increased in total biomass by 7.1% despite significant crowding by the 250 oat plants. The WakeUP 2 foliar actually decreased the dry weight per oat plant by 30.4 % compared to its control. However, the WakeUP 2 + SEA-90 combination foliar spray increased the dry weight per oat plant slightly by 3.6% compared to its control without any foliar spray. Average fresh and dry weights per plant of both the oats and radishes were less in the WakeUP 2 +SEA-90 plots than in the WakeUP 2 plots in large part due the crowding from the extra oat plants. This quick evaluation suggests that foliar application of WakeUP 2 can have a significant impact on increasing growth of Tillage Radishes in a cover crop mixed with oats, especially if the plants are not too crowded. Dissolving and adding the SEA-90 micronutrient fertilizer to the mix also appeared to be beneficial for increasing Tillage Radish growth in crowded conditions.
