1 Trial Report 2008 Herbicides REGULATOR IN SPRING WHEAT Study Director: Sanni Junnila Trial ID Location Crop Experimental starting and completion H Jokioinen Spring wheat May 12 th and October 14 th 2008 Purpose of trial: Evaluation of biological efficacy and selectivity of herbicides Attribut SG 70 and Sekator OD mixed with two plant growth regulators against grass and broad-leaved weeds in spring wheat in Finland in SUMMARY Attribut SG 70 (propoxycarbazone 700 g/kg) and Sekator OD (iodosulfuron 25 g/l +amidosulfuron 100 g/l +mefenpyr 250 g/l) are herbicides, which are the components of Attribut Super treatment. The selectivity and the efficacy on Elymus repens (AGGRE) and annual dicot weeds (TTTDD) were tested in one spring wheat trial in Jokioinen. The weed control capacity and the effect on yield of the tank mixtures of Attribut Super and plant growth regulators Hankkijan CCC (chlormequat-clorid 750 g/l) and Moddus M (trinexapacethyl 250 g/l) were investigated. Two rates of Hankkijan CCC (0.4 and 0.8 l/ha) and one dose of Moddus M (0.15 l/ha) were tested. Same doses of Attribut SG 70 (60 g/ha) and Sekator OD (100 ml/ha) were used in three Attribut Super treatments completed with Sito Plus (0.1 l/ha). Soil type was heavy clay and spring wheat (Triticum aestivum var. Kruunu) was sown May 12 th Spring wheat was sprayed in the evening of June 18 th. Air temperature was 14 C and humidity 69 RH %. There was no dew on crop but soil was damp. Spring wheat was 25 to 30 cm high and the average growth stage was the beginning of stem elongation (BBCH 30). AGGRE was 25 to 40 cm high and the growth stage varied from first tiller to two visible extended internodes (BBCH 21-32). Hankkijan CCC damaged spring wheat more than Moddus in Attribut Super tank mixture. Symptoms were the light colour of leaves and short growth stagnation. Colour change had vanished but crop shortening was visible two weeks after spraying. CCC and Moddus reduced the crop vigor 12 to 22 % and 6 to 11 %, respectively. The increase of CCC dose from 0.4 to 0.8 l/ha had no effect on vigor. Attribut Super and both doses of CCC reduced crop length by 11 % and significantly more than Moddus with Attribut Super, which decreased crop height also significantly 7 % (Figure 1). There were 295 AGGRE shoots per square meter in untreated spring wheat July 30 th and the air-dry biomass was g/sqm (Figure 2). Hankkijan CCC with Attribut Super controlled AGGRE slightly better than Attribut Super with Moddus but no significant difference between treatments was found. Attribut Super plus both doses of Hankkijan CCC reduced 74 % AGGRE number and 91 to 92 % AGGRE biomass. Tank mixture of Attribut Super and Moddus was less effective and the reduction in AGGRE number and biomass was 51 % 83 %, respectively. Attribut Super with CCC treatments left slightly less dicot weeds (TTTDD) than the Attribut Super and Moddus treatment. Attribut Super with CCC treatments reduced 94 to 97 % TTTDD number and with Moddus 88 %. Reduction of TTTDD biomass was 97 to 100 % in Attribut Super with CCC treatments and 93 % when growth regulator was Moddus (Figure 3). Hankkijan CCC and Moddus M with Attribut Super increased the grain yield of spring wheat 52 % and 56 %, respectively (untreated totally unsprayed). Increase in CCC dose (0.4 to 0.8 l/ha) had no effect on grain yield. CCC treatments had significantly (2 %) lower hectolitre weight than Moddus and untreated. Both plant growth regulators in Attribut Super tank mixtures reduced significantly (4 to 6 %) the weight of 1000 grains and the higher dose of CCC significantly more than Moddus.
