(Brinkerhoff) was retained by the Brick Township Board of Education (Client) to perform an Indoor Air Quality (IAQ) Mold Inspection and follow-up sampling of the on-going mold remediation at Drum Point Elementary School located at 41 Drum Point Road, Brick, New Jersey. The tasks performed include an inspection for evidence of visual mold, collection of temperature and relative humidity measurements, and air samples and surface samples. Professional remediation of the school began on the weekend of October 5, 2013 and is due to continue until the entire building can be remediated. This letter is in reference to remediation activities that occurred November 1-3, 2013. SITE INSPECTIONS, SAMPLING & REMEDIATION OVERSIGHT On November 1, 2013 remediation began at 3PM and continued throughout the night until approximately 3 AM on Saturday November 2, 2013. Classrooms 10, 12, 13, 14, 29, 31, and 33 were scheduled for cleaning by the District. Brinkerhoff was on site to oversee the remediation and cleaning performed by All Risk Inc. and Insurance Restoration Specialists Inc. (IRS). Brinkerhoff returned on Sunday November 3, 2013 to perform post remediation testing. This testing included a visual inspection, air sampling and surface sampling of rooms that had been cleaned and exterior reference air samples. METHODS AND EQUIPMENT Spore trap samples were collected for the purpose of quantifying and identifying the relative fungal genera in the indoor air. Spore trap samples were collected using an EMS Portable IAQ Sample Pump at a sampling rate of 15 liters per minute (lpm) for ten (10) minutes. Results are in

Surface samples were collected using tape lift kits issued by the analytical laboratory. A direct lift of surfaces within the scope of work was collected evaluate the effectiveness of the cleaning. Results are in fungal structures per square inch (FS/in²). The samples were delivered to EMSL Analytical, Inc. under proper chain of custody procedures for fungal analyses MICROBIAL CONCENTRATION GUIDANCE There are no government-issued numerical standards for mold interpretation; however, the following values were utilized for guidance in interpreting the microbial survey results. These ranges are not for health risk evaluation, but present a range found in environmental samples collected in a variety of environments (EMSL 2010, Guidance for Interpretation of Mold Results). The general range of microbial concentrations used to interpret the sampling results is presented in Table 1 below. It should be noted that outdoor spore types and levels are evaluated in determining a sampling result. RESULTS Table 1 Spore Trap Sample (FS/m 3 ) <250 Low/Normal 250-1,000 Moderate/Borderline >1,000 Active Growth/Sporulation >5,000 Very Active Growth/Sporulation < - Less than; > - Greater than. Background levels of 5 indicate an overloading of background particulates, prohibiting accurate detection and quantification. Present = Spores detected on overloaded samples. Results are not blank corrected unless othewise noted. The detection limit is equal to one fungal spore, structure, pollen, fiber particle or insect fragment. "*" Denotes particles found at 300X.
