Senior Human Resources Manager Business Support Team EHA0280-0616 The post holder will be: Accountable to: Responsible to: Responsible for: Director of Human Resources Deputy Director of Human Resources HR Business Support Team Main purpose of the post To deliver an outstanding business focussed service to University managers, based on a true understanding of the sector, the University and the business challenges of individual faculties and services. The role holder will apply their high level professional knowledge and expertise when developing a range of tailored OD interventions and solutions, in line with the approach identified in the University s People Strategy and HR s vision of Developing an outstanding experience for staff and students. Because people matter. As a member of the Senior HR Management Team the role holder will contribute to the development of HR strategic plans and will have lead responsibility for the development of specific projects which will have an impact across the University. The role holder will lead a Business Support Team, developing this area of our service and providing engaging and highly effective leadership thus delivering outstanding performance and enabling personal development of team members who demonstrate initiative, positivity and a business focussed approach. The role holder will consistently keep up-to-date with Strategic HR thinking and practice; role modelling effective and positive professional standards and behaviours identified for the HR team, in addition to complying with the CIPD Code of Professional Conduct and will ensure that Edge Hill s HR Service Standards are continually improved, through effective review and enhancement of business relationships and the development of team members. 1
Specific duties and responsibilities Strategic 1. To contribute, as a member of the Senior HR Management Team, in the development, implementation and monitoring of the People Strategy, seeking to develop a culture of excellence within the University. 2. To make a significant contribution to the ongoing development of the Business Partner Service and its engagement in driving forward organisational competence. 3. To take the lead on key projects / developments that aid enhancement of the HR service and the University s approach to HRM. 4. To take responsibility for the provision of HR interventions including organisational development which improve University performance, in partnership with designated senior managers, specialist HR teams and where appropriate external agencies. 5. To act as deputy for the Deputy Director of Human Resources taking appropriate decisions as required in their absence. Business Focus 6. To develop highly effective working relationships with designated Business Partners, maintaining a real understanding of their business challenges and placing the current and future needs of the customers, students and sustainability of the University at the heart of the service. 7. To utilise high level professional knowledge and expertise to create and implement interventions which combine business understanding and best fit solutions in people management. 8. To be an ambassador for the service by being professionally credible, fully engaged and demonstrating a thorough and up to date knowledge of HRM. 9. To make decisions that are fully informed by business knowledge and understanding and are in line with the CIPD Professional Code of Conduct and the University s People Strategy. 10. To analyse data and information to gain insight into organisational performance and to work in partnership with Business Partners to implement strategies to enhance performance. 11. To ensure that the feedback gathered from business partners is utilised to inform the future development of the HR service, developing understanding of the current and future needs of the customer and ensuring the effective delivery of their strategic goals. 2

To engage, motivate and encourage personal professional development of team members, through effective feedback and performance reviews and the setting of SMART objectives that provide a line of sight to the University s strategic objectives. 14. To ensure that team members have the necessary information, development and training and receive regular feedback on performance and behaviours, to proactively enable talent, initiative and creativity and to address any aspect of under-performance. 15. To provide team members with guidance and advice when developing new policies, procedures or business systems. 16. To ensure highly effective communications between the HR Business Support Teams and the wider Edge Hill community, utilising fully and effectively the various methods available, including the HR Intranet and annual Managers Survey. To act on customer feedback thus enabling service excellence and ensuring communication systems are operating effectively. Operational Performance Excellence 17. To provide senior managers and HR Business Team members with guidance and support when dealing with complex staffing issues such as change management, restructures, formal procedures or redundancy. 18. To undertake any other duties as deemed appropriate by the Director or Deputy Director of Human Resources. 3

Salary: Grade 9 - Point 36 40 37,768 to 42,488 per annum Hours: Full Time with the requirement to work flexibly according to the ongoing demands of the role and responsibilities at this level.
