1 JO DESCRIPTION POST TITLE: NVQ ASSESSOR CATERING AND HOSPITALITY POST REF: 12/41 REPORTS TO: JO PURPOSE: SECTION MANAGER SPORT, LEISURE, TRAVEL AND TOURISM, CATERING AND HOSPITALITY 1. TO PLAN AND PROVIDE TRAINING TO STUDENTS LEARNING PREDOMINANTLY IN THE WORKPLACE. DATE: AUGUST TO ASSESS LEARNERS IN THE WORKPLACE. TO DEVELOP AND CO- ORDINATE ASSESSMENT IN THE WORKPLACE. 3. TO RECORD AND TRACK WORKPLACE ASSESSMENTS AND ENSURE THAT CANDIDIATES ACHIEVE THEIR NVQs IN THE SPECIFIED TIME PERIOD. 4. TO ACT AS INTERNAL VERIFIER AS REQUIRED. 5. RECRUITMENT OF NEW CLIENTS GENERAL RESPONSIILITIES: 1 All forms of assessment work in workplace assessments of candidates. 2 Undertake all associated organisational and administrative work, grading and record keeping. 3 Curriculum development in terms of contributions to evaluations and course reviews as appropriate. 4 Contribute to course co-ordination and management including participation in quality assurance performance review system. 5 Participation in College s Performance Review System and in service training staff appraisal. 6 Ensure a safe working environment in accordance with legal requirements, College regulations, policies and guidelines. 7 Undertake such other duties as may be required from time to time by the College that are within the level and responsibility appropriate to the grade of the post.

2 SPECIFIC RESPONSIILITIES 1. To achieve student numbers targeted by the catering section each academic year, for workplace learners via enrolment and successful completion of courses 2. Follow leads for new students as directed by the College usiness Development Team 3. Coordinate registration of students and workplace with Learning Skills Council 4. To undertake initial assessment with learners to ensure they meet the qualification and award specifications and are suitable to enter the programme, identifying, if appropriate, any additional support requirements. 5. To develop and carry out the assessment plan in conjunction with the learner, setting and, where necessary, modifying learning targets and paying attention to health and safety and equal opportunities. Agree arrangements for assessment with learner and, if relevant, the employer including protection of confidentiality, dealing with sensitivities, contributions to assessments from others and update and review arrangements. 6. To observe and assess learners, using an agreed range of methods that are fair, safe, valid and reliable, to ensure the quality standards of Canterbury College and the relevant Awarding odies are met. 7. To act as a mentor to learners, providing information guidance and support and ensuring all learners are on target to achieve within the specified timeframe. 8. To produce reports and recommendations indicating performance improvements and to feedback to all learners on assessments. 9. To keep effective records of work so there is a clear demonstrable audit trail around the planning and decision making process. 10. To supply accurate and timely information to the Section Manager regarding registration, accreditation, progression and certification of learners to enable formative and summative verification. 11. To manage a workload of learners, ensuring targets are met and delivered on time. 12. To be responsible for the full quality assurance of own caseload of training and assessment interventions with learners receiving learning and development through Canterbury College 13. To be responsible for the delivery of all qualifications and awards Canterbury College is accredited to deliver, in line with the appropriate Awarding ody/ies guidelines 14. To support the Section Manager, including actively contributing to the development of Quality Assurance processes and procedures in team and standardisation meetings. 15. To contribute to the planning, updating and, where necessary writing appropriate course material to meet learner needs and quality framework. 16. Where required to carry out internal verification duties by sampling and examination of portfolios formative and summative verification and to keep up to date sampling plans and internal verification records for audit purposes relating to external verification and quality processes. 17. Visit companies to undertake assessment and verification activity 18. Liaise with the External Verifier, Section Manager and Internal Verifiers to develop and implement the Internal Verification Strategy 19. To identify and share good practice
